A Gojek driver in Singapore has been suspended from the platform after a female passenger alleged that he repeatedly made inappropriate and sexually suggestive remarks during a ride in the early hours of the morning.

The incident reportedly took place at around 1am on 9 July, involving a 26-year-old woman who later shared her experience online.

According to the passenger, the conversation began as casual small talk but gradually became increasingly uncomfortable as the driver started asking personal and intrusive questions.

She claimed the exchange continued for several minutes, prompting her to begin recording the conversation as she became concerned about the situation.

Passenger Recorded Conversation After Feeling Uncomfortable

A video circulating on social media appears to capture parts of the interaction between the driver and the passenger.

During the recording, the driver can allegedly be heard asking a series of personal questions, including inquiries about the woman’s relationship status and intimate matters.

The passenger also claimed the driver made comments of a sexual nature and suggested engaging in a sexual encounter involving her and her partner.

At one point, the driver reportedly attempted to downplay his remarks by describing them as jokes.

The woman later explained that she chose to continue responding to the driver rather than confronting him directly because she was worried about her safety while alone in the vehicle.

She also alleged that the driver appeared to be driving unusually slowly during the journey, which added to her unease.

Complaint Filed With Gojek

Following the ride, the woman lodged a formal complaint with Gojek.

Reflecting on the incident, she questioned the appropriateness of the driver’s behaviour, particularly after he allegedly mentioned having a daughter of a similar age to her.

She argued that such comments were unacceptable in a professional setting and said drivers should maintain appropriate boundaries with passengers.

The woman further highlighted that many individuals, particularly women travelling alone, may feel pressured to remain polite in uncomfortable situations due to concerns about their personal safety.

Her comments sparked widespread discussion online, with many social media users expressing support and calling for stricter action against inappropriate conduct by ride-hailing drivers.

Gojek Investigating Incident

In response to media queries, Gojek confirmed that it is aware of the allegations and has launched an investigation.

The company said the driver has been suspended from the platform while investigations are ongoing.

A spokesperson reiterated that the ride-hailing company takes reports of inappropriate behaviour seriously and is committed to ensuring passengers feel safe and comfortable when using its services.

Gojek added that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of its investigation.

The case has once again drawn attention to passenger safety during ride-hailing journeys, particularly during late-night trips when travellers may be more vulnerable and isolated.
