A 26-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested after a video showing him performing a dangerous wheelie while carrying his wife and four-year-old daughter on a motorcycle went viral on social media.
The stunt, which reportedly took place in Alor Setar, Kedah, sparked widespread criticism online after footage showed the rider lifting the front wheel of his motorcycle despite having two family members riding with him.
Police have since detained the rider and seized his motorcycle as investigations continue.
Viral Video Triggers Police Investigation
According to the Kota Setar District Police, officers received a report after a 17-second video began circulating on Facebook.
The footage allegedly showed a blue Honda EX5 motorcycle performing a wheelie while carrying two pillion passengers — a woman seated behind the rider and a young child positioned at the front.
Following the report, police launched an investigation to identify the rider and trace the motorcycle involved.
The man was later arrested at the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters traffic station, where officers also impounded the motorcycle for further investigation.
Family Was Reportedly Heading Out for Dinner
Investigators believe the incident took place at around 12.30am on Saturday along Lebuhraya Darul Aman near Dataran Medan Bandar.
Police said the rider was travelling from his home in Kampung Hutan Kandis with his 25-year-old wife and their four-year-old daughter on the way to Jalan Pegawai for dinner.
During the journey, the rider allegedly performed a wheelie by lifting the motorcycle’s front wheel while continuing to travel along the road.
Authorities said the stunt not only endangered the rider and his family but also posed a serious risk to other motorists using the road at the time.
Motorcycle Seized as Investigations Continue
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless and dangerous driving.
Police stressed that such behaviour on public roads can have severe consequences, particularly when passengers, especially young children, are involved.
The viral incident has reignited discussions on road safety and responsible riding, with many social media users condemning the rider for putting his family at unnecessary risk.
Authorities have reminded all motorists and motorcyclists that dangerous stunts belong on controlled tracks, not public roads where they can threaten the lives of innocent road users.
