Need some advice from the EDMW and Reddit lao jiaos here because my brain is currently fried.
So yesterday, my wife (F30) told me she going out to “shop with her primary school friends” at Orchard Road around 1 PM. Said going to buy clothes and do some window shopping, will be home around dinner time. Fair enough, I (M32) stay home, play my PS5, wash the clothes, and chill.
Fast forward to 8:30 PM, she comes back. First thing I notice: zero shopping bags. Not even one bubble tea cup or Charles & Keith bag. Nothing. But then she puts her stuff on the dining table, and I see a brand new iPhone 15 Pro (still in the box!) and a folded piece of paper sticking out from her sling bag.
She immediately went to take a bath, so I went over to take a look at the table (call me suspicious, but my gut feeling was screaming).
The paper turned out to be a receipt from a boutique hotel in the Bugis/Middle Road area. Check-in time was 2:15 PM, check-out was 6:00 PM. Payment made via credit card.
When she came out of the shower, I casually asked her, “Wah, go shopping got no bags one ah? And where you get the new phone from?”
She looked super stunned for 2 seconds, then quickly said, “Oh, my friends and I went to lunch at a hotel cafe, then one of my friends owed me money from long time ago, so she bought me the phone as repayment.”
I asked her why the receipt says room reservation and check-out at 6 PM. She immediately grew defensive, blacked her face, and shouted at me for “spying on her” and “not trusting her.” She said they booked a day room just to “chill and talk girl talk comfortably without noise.”
Bro.
Who books a hotel room for 4 hours just to “talk girl talk”? And who repays a casual debt with a brand-new $1,500+ iPhone on the spot? The math is not mathing at all. We have been married for 3 years, BTO just reached MOP, and now this happening.
Now she is ignoring me, sleeping in the common room, and acting like I am the wrong one for questioning her. I haven’t confronted her with full force yet because I’m still trying to process everything.
Am I being paranoid, or is this a textbook red flag? What should my next move be? Seek legal advice now, or try to check her phone? Need real talk please.
