Just got back from Chengdu and my hangover is finally clearing up, but my bank account and my soul are still shaking.
To clarify from my previous chat with the bros—no, that wasn’t $11k total. It was SGD $11,000 PER PAX. 7 of us (all 30-something corporate slaves) spent over a year saving up to throw down a total war chest of around SGD $77,000 (~410,000 RMB) for a 4-day, 3-night “tycoon mode” squad trip.
When we told people we were dropping $11k each on a short trip to Chengdu, everyone thought we were insane. “Bro, $11k can go Europe business class or stay in luxury villa in Maldives liao!” But our lobang guy promised that Chengdu’s high-end nightlife scene at the top tier is an absolute sensory overload that Singaporeans cannot even comprehend.
He was 1000% right. Hearsay was true—their KTV and clubbing scene is next-level FUN, and it completely ruins Singapore’s cheap thrills, overpriced Siam Diu, and stingy VIP culture forever.
Night 1: Mega-Club VVIP Central Stage
In Singapore, if you drop $5,000 at Marquee or Zouk, what do you get? A decently located sofa, a few bottles of overpriced champagne, and bouncers treating you like you’re doing them a favor by being there.
In Chengdu, dropping 100,000 RMB (~$18k SGD) on a central stage VVIP booth at a top-tier mega-club gets you treated like a visiting diplomat. We had a dedicated squad of 6 personal table hosts, personal security guards blocking randoms, and a literal parade of Dom Pérignon delivered with sparklers, custom LED wall animations flashing our squad’s name, and DJ shoutouts. The sound system felt like it was reprogramming my heartbeat.
Night 2: Luxury KTV Penthouse Suite (The Main Event)
This was where the $11k budget really showed its power. Singapore’s idea of a “high-end” KTV or Siam Diu is a tight room with sticky floors, mediocre sound systems, and pushy drinks upselling.
The KTV venue we booked in Chengdu looked like a 7-star palace lobby. Our private VVIP suite was larger than a 5-room HDB flat—complete with a private DJ booth, live performance stage, personal chef cooking gourmet Sichuan supper, a full baccarat/dice lounge, and two full-time floor managers attending to our every command.
The host hospitality and game atmosphere were completely off the charts. The hosts and hype staff kept the drinking games, dice rolling, and interactive energy at 100% all night. Absolutely zero awkwardness, zero fake vibes—just pure, relentless entertainment that made 6 hours fly by in what felt like 20 minutes.
The Aftermath
By the time we wrapped up after endless high-end Sichuan hotpot feeds, private luxury van transports, and penthouse suites, we actually managed to spend almost the entire $77k pool.
Honestly, coming back to Singapore and paying $25 for a watered-down gin & tonic while squeezed like sardines in a crowded club feels like getting scammed. Chengdu at the high-end level gives you 10x the service, 10x the scale, and 100x the vibe.
