Sister begs my elderly parents for $2k/month allowance claiming she’s a “struggling single mom”, while driving a CLA200 and living in a Bukit Timah landed house with her rich boyfriend.
I (30M) am furious beyond words at my elder sister (34F) and the sheer spinelessness of my parents.
Three years ago, my sister got divorced. She has a 5-year-old son. Right after the divorce, she came crying back to my parents’ 4-room HDB flat, wailing about how hard life is as a “struggling single mother.”
My parents (both retired, living on small CPF payouts) felt extremely sorry for her. They gave her their master bedroom, cooked all her meals, paid for my nephew’s milk powder and diapers, and even agreed to give her a $2,000/month cash allowance from their retirement savings to “help her get on her feet.”
I was okay with this initially. Family help family, right?
Except, within 6 months, my sister stopped sleeping at my parents’ flat altogether. She would drop my nephew at my parents’ house on Monday morning and literally disappear until Sunday night.
Where was she going?
I did some digging on Instagram and Facebook.
Turns out, she met a rich crypto/business guy (40s M). She has been living with him in his 3-story landed property in Bukit Timah for the past two years!
Not only that:
- She drives a brand new Mercedes-Benz CLA200 (registered under her name, likely bought by the boyfriend).
- Her Instagram is full of fine dining at Marina Bay Sands, designer bags (Chanel, Hermes), and trips to Europe/Bali every two months.
- She uses my parents as a FREE 24/7 babysitting service for her son while she lives a high-SES lifestyle.
AND THE WORST PART? She is STILL taking the $2,000/month allowance from my elderly parents!
Every month without fail, she will text my dad: “Pa, child’s enrichment and milk powder very expensive, please transfer the $2k today, thanks.” And my dad will dutifully transfer his hard-earned CPF savings to her!
Last Sunday, when she came back in her Mercedes to drop off my nephew, I blocked her at the doorway.
Me: “Sis, you drive Mercs, wear Chanel, live in landed house, and you still have the cheek to suck $2k allowance every month from Pa and Ma’s retirement fund? You not ashamed ah?”
Her reaction? She rolled her eyes and yelled: “That one is my boyfriend’s money! Why should I use my boyfriend’s money to raise my son? My parents helping me is family matter, what does it have to do with you? You jealous because I drive better car than you?”
My parents actually scolded ME! My mom said: “Aiya, don’t scream at your sister! Single mom very pitiful one! As long as she happy can already!”
Pitiful?! She has a higher standard of living than 95% of Singaporeans! She is actively bleeding my parents’ retirement fund dry while living in luxury. How do I wake my brainwashed parents up before their CPF runs completely dry?
