GetGo car catches fire along Lornie Highway, company investigating
A GetGo car caught fire along Lornie Highway on Tuesday (25 Aug) afternoon, prompting the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) to respond to the incident.
No injuries were reported after the fire broke out near MacRitchie Reservoir. Footage shared on XiaoHongShu showed the vehicle stopped along the road shoulder, with flames engulfing the area around its bonnet.
Thick black smoke could also be seen rising from the vehicle as it burned. The incident reportedly took place on the left side of Lornie Highway, with the affected car appearing to be away from other vehicles and pedestrians.
SCDF extinguishes fire involving car engine compartment
SCDF said it was alerted to the incident at around 12pm on 25 Aug.
The fire involved the engine compartment of a car along Lornie Highway. Firefighters subsequently extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries arising from the incident.
The exact cause of the fire has not been established and remains under investigation. It is not clear at this stage whether the fire was related to a mechanical fault or another cause.
GetGo, a car-sharing service operating in Singapore, said it was informed about the incident and immediately activated a team to provide assistance.
GetGo investigating cause of fire
A GetGo spokesperson told AsiaOne that the company is taking the incident “very seriously” and is conducting a thorough investigation to determine what may have caused the vehicle to catch fire.
The company is also providing support to the user involved and said it would continue doing so.
The incident comes after another GetGo vehicle was reported to have caught fire in May 2025.
That earlier incident occurred along Upper Changi Road East, although no injuries were reported. GetGo subsequently clarified that the vehicle was being driven by authorised workshop personnel at the time and was not available for booking through its app.
With the latest incident now under investigation, further details about what caused the Lornie Highway fire may emerge once assessments of the vehicle are completed.
For motorists travelling along Lornie Highway, the incident also highlights the potential disruption that a vehicle fire can cause on a major road, particularly if thick smoke or emergency response vehicles affect visibility and traffic flow.
