A 44-year-old man is set to be charged in Singapore after allegedly throwing a rock weighing almost half a kilogram at the glass entrance door of Police Cantonment Complex.
The incident happened on the night of Sep. 15, with police alerted to a reported case of vandalism at the complex at around 10:55pm.
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), officers responding to the incident arrested the man at the scene.
Rock allegedly thrown twice
Preliminary investigations found that the man had allegedly thrown the same rock at the glass door twice, resulting in the door shattering.
The rock, which weighed almost 500g, was subsequently seized by police and will be used as a case exhibit.
The man was believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to preliminary investigations.
Police did not state whether anyone was injured in the incident.
Man to face vandalism charge
The 44-year-old is expected to appear in court on Sep. 17, where he will be charged with vandalism.
Under Singapore law, a person convicted of vandalism may face a fine of up to S$2,000 or a jail term of up to three years.
The offence may also carry between three and eight strokes of the cane.
The case comes as Singapore maintains strict laws against vandalism and damage to property, with penalties depending on the circumstances and nature of the offence.
The SPF has not provided further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances leading up to the incident.
He is expected to be brought before the courts on Sep. 17 to face the charge.
