An 11-year-old Singaporean boy was reportedly assaulted at a Halloween party after another child allegedly became angry over losing a mobile game, leaving him with a concussion and multiple injuries.
The incident reportedly happened on Oct. 31, when the boy attended a Halloween gathering after being invited by a schoolmate.
According to his mother, who identifies herself as Cali on social media, her son was allegedly punched around 20 times in the face before being struck on both sides of his head with a mobile phone.
What made the incident particularly troubling was that the 11-year-old was not even participating in the game that had allegedly triggered the other child’s anger.
The boy was subsequently taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Mother initially thought her son had encountered a minor problem
In a series of social media videos, Cali explained that she had arranged for her son to attend the Halloween party on his own.
She had booked a taxi for him as she needed to remain at home to care for her three-month-old newborn.
Cali said she had allowed her son to attend similar gatherings independently on previous occasions, and nothing had gone wrong before.
However, when he returned home, he told her that something bad had happened at the party.
Initially, she thought he might have misplaced his belongings or had a disagreement with another child.
She was shocked when her son eventually explained what had happened.
According to Cali, her son said another boy of the same age had suddenly attacked him, punching him repeatedly and hitting his head with a phone.
She claimed that the attack was unprovoked and happened so suddenly that her son froze and was unable to react.
Boy diagnosed with concussion after hospital visit
After returning home, the 11-year-old complained of dizziness and lightheadedness.
Cali also noticed swelling on both sides of his head, along with bruising around his nose.
The family subsequently sought medical attention at a hospital.
In an update shared on Instagram on Nov. 3, Cali revealed that her son had been diagnosed with a concussion.
She also explained that the incident had left him dealing with persistent physical discomfort.
Cali said her son continued to have facial bruises, headaches and occasional dizziness.
He was also struggling to sleep properly because of the pain from his injuries.
The boy has reportedly been advised to avoid physical activities for the next six weeks, affecting his post-examination activities and previously planned travel arrangements.
Mother questions whether the other child will face consequences
Cali expressed frustration over the incident, particularly after she claimed to have been told that the matter did not constitute an arrestable offence.
She was also upset that the incident had allegedly taken place without her being informed immediately by the parent hosting the Halloween gathering.
However, she later explained that the host parent had been occupied with sending another child to the taxi stand when the incident happened.
According to Cali, the host parent had not contacted her because her son had asked to tell his mother about the incident personally.
This left Cali feeling particularly emotional, as she realised her son had been trying not to worry her despite being injured.
She also praised her son’s decision not to retaliate during the alleged attack, although she questioned why behaving appropriately should leave him suffering the consequences.
Police confirm investigations are ongoing
The incident has since been reported to the authorities.
In response to media queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that a police report had been lodged and investigations are ongoing.
Cali also told Lianhe Zaobao that the alleged attacker was around the same age as her son.
According to her account, the other boy had become angry after losing a mobile game before allegedly turning his frustration towards the 11-year-old, who was not involved in the game.
The case has raised concerns about children’s behaviour, supervision at private gatherings and how disagreements during recreational activities can escalate into physical confrontations.
For parents organising children’s parties, the incident also highlights the importance of ensuring adequate supervision and having clear arrangements to respond when something goes wrong.
As police investigations continue, the full circumstances surrounding the incident and any potential consequences for those involved remain to be established.
