A 54-year-old father in Thailand was arrested after allegedly firing two shots into the air during an argument with a teacher over his child’s ability to perform basic addition.
The incident happened at a school in Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima, at around 3.20pm on 2 November 2026, shortly before students were due to leave for the day.
According to local media reports, no one was injured and no property damage was reported.
Father Allegedly Angry Over Child’s Addition Skills
The man, identified as Manachai Chanthasom, was reportedly at the school to pick up his child when he became involved in a dispute with a teacher.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the disagreement concerned the child’s ability to understand or perform basic addition.
Chanthasom was allegedly intoxicated during the confrontation.
He reportedly became increasingly agitated before drawing a .38-calibre revolver and firing two shots into the air within the school grounds.
Suspect Flees After Firing Shots
Following the incident, Chanthasom allegedly left the school in a pickup truck and drove to a public area within the village.
Police subsequently tracked him down and arrested him.
Officers also seized the firearm believed to have been used during the incident.
Faces Multiple Charges
Chanthasom was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm in a public place without reasonable cause, and drink-driving.
The incident has raised concerns about safety within school premises, particularly as the confrontation took place while students were still at school.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the two shots being fired.
