A foreign talent went to a mall to purchase a shaver but it was before his quarantine order ended. Indian national Vardireddy Nageswara Reddy, 35, was fined S$3,500 on Wednesday (May 20) after pleading guilty to one count of breaching his home quarantine order.
The court was informed that he had come into close contact with a colleague who was infected with the corona virus.
Due to this issue, he was given two orders to be isolated at home – the first ordering him to stay in his rented Sengkang flat from Feb 16 to noon on Feb 20, and the second to remain isolated in his flat from Feb 16 to noon Feb 25. Both orders made it compulsory for him to be isolated and he could not leave his house without permission.
But a day before his quarantine order ended, he left his flat to purchase a shaver at Compass One mall. However, an auxiliary police officer had visited his flat five minutes after he left his home and realised that he was not in.
The prosecutor asked for a fine of S$6,000, noting that breaches of quarantine orders are serious, with the starting point for offences in the least serious category going up to two months’ jail.
