LUCKY CHINESE NUMBER BIDED FOR USD $300,000 ONLINE

A mobile number with an auspicious string of digits was sold for $USD300,000 (RMB 2.25 million) in an online auction in China.

The number ends with five eights which have the same sounds like a Chinese word for prosperity.

The number was part of an asset that was seized by the court in Beijing. The auction that was spread across two days has attracted more than 5000 people to participate.

In Chinese culture, the number eight is considered a lucky number as compared to number four. As the number sounds like the word death in Chinese. The winner of the bid will have 10 days to come out with the money before the number belongs to him.

In 2017, a similar number ending with seven-eights was auctioned off for RMB 3.91 million.
