2 MEN JAILED FOR ARRANGING FAKE MARRIAGE FOR PRC WOMEN

2 Singaporean men,  Choo Yong Sheng and Yap Junlian Eddie both aged 38 were sentenced to jail on the 04 Aug 2020 and 12 Aug 2020 respectively for arranging a fake marriage for a Chinese national who wanted to stay in Singapore.

Both men were sentenced to 32 weeks of jail but Choo will be jailed for an additional 12 weeks for hurting a police officer. They were also fined $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.

Zhang Fengyu 42, was a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) holder under the “Study Mama” scheme. She told Choo that she wishes to remain in Singapore after her child completes his study in Singapore. Choo then offers to help her by arranging a fake marriage for her with another Singaporean man for $18,000.

Choo then recruited Ng Wei Keong Jason 44, to enter into the fake marriage and promised to pay him $8,000. The pair got married on the 11 Jul 2016, Zhang then pays Choo $10,000 and said that she will only pay her the balance once she got her LTVP under the sponsorship of her “Singaporean spouse”.

The couple were arrested by the Immigration Checkpoint Authority in Mar 2017. Ng was sentenced to a 6 months jail term while Zhang was sentenced to a 3 months jail term.
