16 Y.O YP ARRESTED FOR SUSPICION AS A LOANSHARK RUNNER @ SENG KANG

According to the Police, a 16-year-old old male teen was arrested after a report of a loanshark harassment was filed with the Police.

The police were alerted on the 22nd September 2020 at around 6.55 PM. The incident happened along Compassvale street and a housing unit along in the vicinity was splashed with paint and an ah longs debtor note was left along with the paint.

The Police were able to arrest the teenager teenage with the aid of Police CCTV on the 29th September 2020,the teenager will be charged in court today.

Under the Moneylenders Act, first time offenders found guilty of loan shark harassment faces a fine of at least S$5,000 and a maximum of S$50,000 along with a jail term of up to five years and up to six strokes of the cane.

As the teenager is already 16-years-old he can be liable for the rotan punishment.

The Police have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disruptions to public safety, peace and security, will be arrested and dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist the loansharks in any way. The public can call the Police at ‘999’ or the X-Ah Long hotline at 1800-924-5664 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities
