38 Y.O ARRESTED AT JURONG WEST AFTER SNATCHING GOLD FROM WOMAN

A man was recently apprehended by the Police after he was suspected to be involved in a snatch theft case at Jurong West.

The incident happened on the 16 October at around 1.20 PM. The Police were alerted by a woman and the Police were informed that her gold pendant was snatched by a man at Jurong West Street 81.

The Police were able to identify the culprit after reviewing the Police CCTV and conducting ground enquires. The man was charged in court on the 21 October 2020 under snatch theft of Section 356

If the man is found guilty of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, he will be jailed for at least 1 year and up to 7 years. Along with the rotan punishment.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures against snatch theft:

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;

  • Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large sums of cash; and

  • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times.
