A man was arrested by the police on suspicion of setting fire to objects in the corridor of an HDB flat. The arson occurred at around 7:55 this morning (November 15) in the HDB Block 236 on Compassvale Drive in Sengkang.
A witness stated that she thought it was a neighbor burning gold and silver paper, but the smoke was billowing and she felt that something was wrong. She then called the civil defense and I immediately notified other neighbors
According to observations, the outer wall of the floor involved was blackened, and the corridor wall was also blackened due to the fire.
The Civil Defence Force confirmed the incident when questioned and stated that the fire involved objects placed in the corridor on the 15th floor of the HDB. Civil defense personnel used several buckets of water to extinguish the fire, and no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The police confirmed that a 34-year-old man was arrested under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. The case is under investigation.
