NEW YEAR WITH COLD WEATHER LOWEST AT 21.3°C in Singapore

Thanks to the long last rain the temperature of Singapore has dropped to a cool blue 21.3°C in parts of Singapore.

The rain has finally ease at night but NEA said that similar weather conditions will be expected in the next few days. Temperatures at Newton dropped to 21.3°C.

Changi recorded one of the largest rainfall levels at 184.44mm.

Singapore and the surrounding vicinity has been experiencing cool and rainy weather from a monsoon surge since yesterday (1 Jan 2021) morning.

Widespread continuous rain, heavy at times and with thunder, is expected to continue today, gradually easing in the night. This is the first monsoon surge occurrence in the current northeast monsoon season.

It refers to a strengthening of winds over the South China Sea, causing extensive rainclouds to form over the surrounding region.

Typically there are 2-3 surge occurrences during the season. For today (2 Jan 2021), as of noon, the highest rainfall recorded was 184.4mm at Changi, and the lowest temperature was 21.3°C at Newton.

On 1 Jan 2021, daily total rainfall ranging from 24.0mm (at Tuas South) to 147.3mm (at Simei) was recorded across the island. The daily temperature ranged from 21.2°C (at Newton) to 27.0°C (at Tai Seng).

For reference, the highest recorded daily total rainfall and lowest recorded temperature for January in the past ten years was 238.2mm at Pulau Ubin (30 Jan 2011), and 20.1°C at Tengah (31 Jan 2014) respectively.For the next few days, thundery showers are expected in the afternoon.
