A Malaysian man who was convicted of leaving his hostel multiple times during his stay-home notice (SHN) has been stripped of his permanent residence (PR) status.
He developed acute respiratory symptoms and was ordered to stay at home from April to May 3 as it’s considered an SHN. However, a 47-year-old man violated SHN a total of four times. As a result, his permanent resident (PR) status was revoked by the ICA.
On April 29 last year, Chong Tet Choe, who lives in a dormitory in Jurong West, sought medical attention for body aches and cough. The doctor diagnosed with acute respiratory symptoms and gave him five days of sick leave, which is equivalent to a stay home notice. He can only leave his home only to seek medical attention.
However, he still went out four times the next day, May 2 and 3, including going to the canteen to buy food and going to the nearby AXS machine to top up his credits for mobile phone. At the beginning of the investigation, he also informed the Ministry of Health that he only went out once.
On August 7 last year, he was sentenced to imprisonment for violating the Infectious Disease Act; his permanent residency was revoked by the immigration checkpoint yesterday.
Violation of the SHN regulations can face a fine of up to $10,000, or imprisonment for six months, or both.
