This was so that the residents won’t have to walk “on the road with passing vehicles” anymore.

He was collecting signatures at a void deck of Block 192 Bukit Batok West Avenue 6. on 25 February.

The police then released a statement saying that they were made aware of a “case-based event to be held by Dr Chee Soon Juan”.

They warned that “organising or participating in a public assembly without a police permit is illegal and constitutes and offence under the Public Order Act”.

Dr Chee was also informed by a certain Officer Fanim that a permit was needed for his petition at the void deck.

So Dr Chee went door-to-door to collect the signatures instead.

The petition was then submitted at around 4pm on 27 February.
