A 57-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months of jail on 3 May, for molesting his stepdaughter.
He pleaded guilty to one count of molestation, with another similar charge being considered during sentencing.
Both parties cannot be named due to a gag order.
What happened?
The accused married the victim’s mother and lived together in a Woodlands flat.
The incident happened in 2019, when the victim was 15-years-old.
The two were alone at home and the victim asked the accused for a massage because she didn’t sleep well the night before and felt pain in her back.
Her stepfather then asked her to remove her clothes and she did so as she trusted him.
He then massaged her mack for 20 minutes before he slid his hands into her private parts and molested her.
The girl was uncomfortable and told him it was ticklish, after which the accused stopped and told her to shower.
He also told her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
The girl kept mum until her stepfather molested her again for a second time at a later date.
She told her mother about it but the latter decided against making a police report because they were concerned about the accused’s age and health.
A report was later made when a child protection officer found out about the incident during a conversation with the victim.
The court also heard that the accused was fined in 2006 for possession of obscene films.
District Judge Teoh Ai Lin allowed the man’s sentence to be deferred to after Hari Raya.
