According to the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority, they have once again foiled the plans of illegal smugglers.
ICA said in a Facebook post that officers stopped six attempts to smuggle medicines and weight loss products into Singapore. The parcels were falsely declared as ‘Lavender’ and ‘Lifestyle’ items.
The case has since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigation.
In their post they said:
Under HSA’s licensing framework, importers of medicines are required to hold the relevant dealer’s licences. Safeguarding Singapore’s borders remains as the top priority for ICA. Those with ill intent could use similar methods of concealment to smuggle security items into Singapore. ICA will continue to thwart smuggling attempts at the checkpoints so as to safeguard Singapore’s borders.
