19 PEOPLE CAUGHT BY POLICE DRINKING & PARTYING AT BALESTIER

Under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, the police are investigating 19 people aged 22 to 59 for suspected non-compliance with safe distancing measures.

The Police got information of a gathering in a mixed-use commercial and residential structure along Balestier Road on September 20, 2021.

Officers discovered 19 people drinking beer, playing games including darts and table soccer, and socializing within the apartment when they arrived. Inside the unit, there was liquor, a karaoke system, a pool table, a dartboard, and other entertainment-related items.

One of the 19 people found in the unit, a 25-year-old male, is suspected of being the unit’s operator, and he will be investigated for violations of the Public Entertainments Act and the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act 2015. Under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020

The man, along with the other 18 people, will be investigated for non-compliance with safe distancing measures.

Providing public entertainment and distributing liquor without a valid license are both punishable by a fine of up to $20,000 each.

Offenders who violate the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 may face a six-month prison sentence, a fine of up to S$10,000, or both if they do not comply with safe distancing measures.
