S’PORE PR WHO KILLED 2 WOMEN IN LUCKY PLAZA CRASH, JAILED 2 YEARS 6 MONTHS

Chong Kim Hoe, 66-years-old, pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing death on 24 September.

The Malaysian Singapore PR who worked as a PHV driver at the time, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment.

He had crashed his car into a group of maids outside Lucky Plaza back in 2019, resulting in the death of 2 women and 4 others injured.

Chong will also be disqualified from all driving for 10 years after the completion of his jail term.

What happened?

Chong was taking a smoke break after dropping off a passenger along Nutmeg Road.

He then received a booking to pick up another customer along Orchard, and he then made an illegal u-turn.

The back of his car mounted the kerb along the junction of Jalan Kayu Manis and he then stepped on the accelerator instead of stepping on the brakes.

It then mounted onto the pedestrial walkway and drove across a grass patch before crashing into 6 women who were having a picnic, and crashing through the guard rail.

The car ultimately crash landed on the service road of the mall. (Lucky Plaza).
