41 Y.O ARRESTED: SUSPECTED MEMBER OF SECRET SOCIETY

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being a member of an illegal society.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Central Police Division conducted an operation at Block 114 McNair Road on September 23, 2021.

During the funeral procession, the 41-year-old man reportedly yelled the motto of an illegal society, according to preliminary findings. The police inquiry is still underway. During the funeral procession, police also investigated individuals into any breaches of COVID-19 safe distancing measures (SDM).

Anyone found guilty of being a member of an unlawful society under section 14(3) of the Societies Act faces a fine of not more than $5,000, a sentence of not more than three years in jail, or both.

Anyone convicted of violating a control order under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 will face a fine of up to $10,000, a period of imprisonment of up to six months, or both if it is their first conviction.
