After running out of alcohol at a party, the party-goers decided that hand sanitisers were a viable substitute for the former.
Seven people have since died, while another two are in a coma.
The incident happened in Russia, in Tomtor village which is located in Tattinsky, Takutia.
Just a reminder for anyone if the context isn’t clear; Hand sanitisers are NOT a substitute for alcohol, even if the sanitisers are alcohol-based.
Hand sanitisers contain methanol, which causes methanol poisoning. Symptoms of methanol poisoning include nausea, vomitting, blurred vision, pains in the abdomen. If left untreated, patients can encounter repiratory or circulatory failure, go into a coma, or even die.
