Gary Joseph Bates Holland, a 37-year-old Briton who was a former teacher at One World International School, pleaded guilty to using abusive language on a public servant and breaching Covid-19 measures.
He was sentenced to a fine of $4,000 on 14 October for using vulgar language on a police officer while drunk.
Two other charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing, namely:
- Public nuisance while drunk
- Verbal abuse of another police officer
What happened?
On 26 June 2020, the police were informed about 2 drunk persons causing trouble near Jurong Point.
Sergeant Muhammad Nasri Mustafa and Sergeant Chua Kian Tiong were deployed to the scene and arrived in about 4 minutes.
They saw Holland being spoken to by the mall’s security.
The two officers also noticed that Holland was not wearing a face mask at the time and asked him about it, to which he replied that he didn’t know where it was.
Holland then threatened to kick the officers if they didn’t stay away, as they were trying to approach him.
He (Holland) said that he would “take them down” if they touched him, before using vulgarities on Sergeant Nasri when asked for his IC.
He then uttered: “You police can’t do anything to me”.
Holland then looked away for a moment when Sergeant Nasri then pinned him down while Sergeant Chua arrested him.
As he was being arrested, Holland continued to shout vulgarities and screamed: “You can’t arrest me!”
