ANG MOH HOMELESS IN HOUGANG, SURVIVING ON WELFARE AFTER LEAVING HIS JOB AND WIFE

A 49-year-old homeless German man, was seen sleeping at Block 106 Hougang Avenue 1.

The caucasian man hails from Karlstadt, Germany, and has been relying on donations for almost a year, sleeping in public spaces and rgoing to the nearby Man Fut Tong Lin Chee Cheng Sia temple for his meals.

He used to be a director of a company in the construction and renovation sector, earning about $12,000 a month, after coming to Singapore over 10 years ago.

He started a family and became a Singapore PR here.

However, He soon fell out with his business partners and left the company; meanwhile his marriage to his Singaporean wife also broke down and he moved out of their marital home and moved in with a friend.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, he moved out of his friend’s house and has been sleeping in the streets ever since.

He added that he doesn’t have his passport and can’t remember his bank pin, and that he is too embarrassed to ask his relatives back in his hometown for help.

He also revealed that employers are reluctant to hire him because they think that they have to pay him a high salary due to him being an Ang Moh.

The German Embassy in Singapore is reportedly aware of his predicament.
