A resident in Serangoon has lodged a police report after a man was captured on surveillance footage allegedly stealing undergarments from outside her home in the early hours of the morning.

The incident took place at Block 226 along Serangoon Avenue 4, where the woman and her domestic helper had noticed a pattern of missing items from a clothes rack placed outside their unit. Suspicious of foul play, the household installed a CCTV camera to monitor the corridor.

Suspicious Behaviour Captured on Camera

According to Shin Min Daily News, Footage later revealed a man appearing in the corridor at around 2am. He was seen behaving cautiously before approaching the rack of clothing. After briefly inspecting the items, he reportedly took out a plastic bag and began placing bras and underwear into it.

The entire act was completed in under five minutes, after which the individual left the scene via the staircase.

Days later, the same man allegedly returned at approximately 2:30am, this time wearing a cap and face covering. He was observed pacing along the corridor before again removing undergarments from the rack.

Family Left Puzzled by Motive

The affected household estimated that nearly S$150 worth of items had been taken, with several of the missing pieces described as new. The repeated nature of the incident led the family to conclude that the losses were not accidental.

The woman’s husband stated that while clothing may occasionally fall due to wind, it was unlikely for multiple items to disappear entirely without external interference.

Despite the evidence, the family expressed confusion over the motive behind the theft. They indicated that they did not recognise the individual and believe he is not a resident of the same block.

Police Investigations Underway

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report has been filed and investigations are ongoing.

Residents in the area have been advised to remain vigilant, particularly when leaving personal belongings unattended in common corridors. While it is common practice in many HDB estates to hang laundry outside units, such incidents highlight potential security risks.

The case has also prompted calls for increased awareness among neighbours, with the affected family hoping others will take precautions to prevent similar occurrences.
