AUNTIE NOT HAPPY WITH NTUC STAFF FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH

A woman who was doing her shopping at NTUC FairPrice shared her frustrations at a worker whom she claimed to be a Chinese national, for not being able to speak English.

The netizen, Amy Tashiana, posted the 9-minute long video onto her YouTube page, documenting her complaining to the management about the staff being unable to speak English.

The incident happened on 21 march when she was at the FairPrice outlet at City Square Mall to buy some fresh seafood when she encountered the staff who couldn’t understand what she was saying in English.

The woman told The Independent that she spoke very little Mandarin herself and that there was no way the staff, who was cutting the fish, couldn’t respond to her effectively because the latter could only speak Mandarin.

She had instructed the staff to help her descale, clean the fish and remove the fins but received the fish in a condition that wasn’t what she asked for because of the language barrier.

Amy then approached a team leader at the supermarket to complain and say that she is not the right fit to work there because she is not able to communicate at all due to her monolingualism.

She then pointed out that there was another customer from Myanmar who experienced the same thing and didn’t want the worker to cut his fish because of the service that he had just seen.

Following the exchange with the team leader, they then returned to the fish section where the team leader explained to the staff how Amy wanted the fish to be cut.

However, Amy remained unhappy with the final product because the staff had cut off the tail of the fish instead of just a fraction of it, which Amy thought was the usual practice.

She said: “You want to employ me or not, I can cut the fish better than her. Put me there the same salary, take her out, I can cut the fish like a flower.”
