BABYSITTER ALLEGEDLY GAVE SLEEPING DRUGS TO BABY AT HOUGANG

38-year-old freelance nurse Sa’adiah Jamari is on trial for allegedly giving “poison” or insomnia drugs to two babies under her care.

She is facing two counts of feeding poisons to two girls.

The incident started in October 2016, the mother went online to search for baby sitters to take care of her two daughters. She found a freelance babysitter at Hougang and decided to take up her services. The younger daughter is only 5-months-old.

The two girls were under Sa’adiah’s care from November to December 2016.

After the daughters were under her case, She noticed that her younger daughter would throw a tantrum and her eyes were swollen.

The mother then took her baby to KK hospital but was discharged but later send them again to Parkway East Hospital as the baby’s condition did not improve.

The baby was warded for 5 days and reports from the hospital detected 10 chemicals that are found in her daughter’s body.

Out of the 10 substances it includes Sleeping drug temazepam, antihistamine chlorpheniramine and aprazolam(Anxiety Medication).

Chlorpheniramine is a common drug used to treat runny nose and flu and may cause drowsiness. It is commonly printed with the warning “Do not operate machinery and drive”

The mother reports the incident to the police after receiving the hospital reports.
