Phoon Chiu Yoke, 53-years-old, told the court on 15 June that she should be “granted immunity” because of the “past cases” that she faced while serving in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Once again, she highlighted to the court that she was a former naval officer with the Singapore Navy.
She said that she was an “eyewitness” to many “grave matters” in the SAF that she cannot disclose in a public court without “causing embarrassment to the SAF or the government”.
Phoon said:
“There were a few occasions when I was an ex-plaintiff to the SAF… so I cannot write representations to AGC (Attorney-General’s Chambers) without being prejudicial or causing embarrassment to SAF or the Government of Singapore.”
“Due to all these cases in the past I should be granted immunity as a citizen and as a ex-naval professional officer, it’s also not possible to take all these charges in court because it’s difficult to have a fair hearing because of all these cases.”
Phoon then highlighted that she was the “first female commanding officers” and she served 12 years in the Navy.
District Judge Janet Wong then said that her past SAF history was irrelevant.
Phoon then said that she begs to differ because of the “grave matters in the previous charges during her time in the SAF”.
The case has been adjourned to 6 July.
