Thai authorities have filed charges against the owner of a Bangkok pub where a devastating fire killed 41 people, making it the country’s deadliest blaze in five years.

Police submitted the case to prosecutors on Tuesday, about one month after the fire broke out at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district.

The pub owner is facing several charges, including negligence causing death, negligence causing serious injuries, negligence causing physical and psychological harm, negligence causing a fire, and operating an entertainment venue without a valid licence.

Pub Owner Hospitalised And Unable To Receive Charges

Police Major General Kiatikul Sonthinern, the district police commander, said the owner was still receiving medical treatment in hospital and was unable to formally acknowledge the charges.

The fire tragedy has drawn widespread attention in Thailand, raising questions about entertainment venue safety standards and whether proper regulations were followed.

Authorities said the death toll has climbed to 41, while 10 other people remain hospitalised following the blaze.

The incident has prompted renewed calls for stricter enforcement of fire safety rules, especially at crowded entertainment venues where large numbers of people gather.

Electrical Fault And Flammable Materials Blamed For Deadly Blaze

Investigators said the fire started after an electrical short circuit linked to unauthorised modifications made to the venue’s electrical system.

Experts also found that non-fire-retardant foam and plastic decorations inside the pub may have contributed to the rapid spread of flames and the production of toxic smoke.

The materials reportedly created extremely high temperatures and dangerous conditions, making it difficult for people inside to escape.

Following the tragedy, the Thai government has promised tighter inspections and stronger regulations for entertainment venues across the country.

Officials said random safety checks would be carried out to ensure businesses comply with fire prevention requirements and maintain safer environments for customers.

The Bangkok pub fire serves as a reminder of the importance of proper building safety standards, licensed operations and regular inspections, as failures in these areas can lead to devastating consequences.
