Clearing immigration from customs will soon be even easier in Singapore.
Singapore went from clearing passports manually to scanning passports and using the fingerprint and camera. Coming this year the passport scanning step will not be required when departing from Changi.
Biometrics scanner
Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean said at the 2022 Changi Aviation Summit:
“We are working on an initiative where departing passengers at Changi need only present their biometrics for verification at the various departure touchpoints, without having to present any physical identity or travel documents.
This will not only enhance the user experience, but also contribute towards the new precautions needed for safe and healthy flying post-pandemic. At the same time, as we increase the use of IT systems, we must strengthen cybersecurity to ensure operational and service resilience, as well as to protect customer data.”
The Senior minister added that this will increase the level of service and allows passengers a smoother experience at the airport.
Terminal 5 Construction
With travelling returning to our lives, one can expect much more improvements to our travelling experiences.
The Changi Airport Terminal 5 project was paused in the last 2 years and the project will resume soon.
The new terminal will be bigger than all 4 current terminals combine.
