My regular contact for “massage with extra services” passed me a new profile yesterday. Photos looked decent, price was standard market rate for Singapore, so I booked a 1-hour session at a condo in the East.
When I knocked on the door and she opened it, my heart instantly dropped into my stomach. It was “Chloe” (not her real name).
Chloe has been dating one of my good buddies, “Marcus”, for about 8 months. Marcus is totally head over heels for her. He brings her to our group gatherings, pays for all their fancy meals, and has even been talking about applying for BTO with her next year. As far as the whole group knew, she was working in digital marketing at some SME.
She recognized me immediately. For about 5 seconds, the room was completely dead silent. She turned pale, pulled me inside quickly so neighbors wouldn’t see, and started hyperventilating. She begged me not to tell Marcus. She swore she only started doing part-time chicken work two months ago because of heavy credit card debts and family medical bills, and claimed Marcus doesn’t give her enough allowance to cover it. She was crying, holding her hands together, literally begging me to keep quiet.
I didn’t do anything, obviously. I handed her $100 just to keep the peace and walked straight out.
Now I’m completely stuck:
- If I tell Marcus: I break his heart, destroy their relationship, and blow up the whole squad dynamic. On top of that, I have to admit to him how I found out—which means exposing myself as a customer to my entire friend group.
- If I keep quiet: I’m letting my friend enter a long-term financial and legal commitment (BTO) with someone who is actively hiding a secret worker life from him.
Is it better to keep my mouth shut and carry this to the grave, or tell him anonymously without revealing my identity? What would you guys do in this situation?
