I was at work the other day when my boss suddenly came into the office, seemingly out of nowhere. He made an announcement that had everyone in the office in shock.
He said that he was going to be implementing a new policy, and that all of us would be required to “contribute” to a recreation fund.
At first, I thought this was some kind of joke.
But then I realized that he was serious. He said that every month, each of us would have to contribute a certain amount of money to this fund and that the money would be used for recreational activities for the entire office.
This was something that none of us had ever heard of before, and it seemed very strange.
I was not sure why my boss had decided to do this, but I knew that I wasn’t going to be happy about it. It seemed like he was taking advantage of us, and the whole thing just seemed unfair. To make matters worse, he didn’t even give us any choice in the matter. He said that if anyone refused to contribute, they would be fired.
I felt like my boss was making a huge mistake. Not only was he taking advantage of us, but he was also taking away our freedom to choose what we wanted to do with our own money. I was also worried that this recreation fund would not be used for its intended purpose. After all, I didn’t trust my boss enough to believe that he would use the money responsibly.
I decided to speak to my boss about my concerns. I told him that I thought this policy was unfair and that I didn’t think it was right for him to force us to contribute. He listened to what I had to say, but he was not willing to change his mind. He said that it was “for the good of the company” and that he needed us to contribute in order for the office to be a success.
I couldn’t believe how stubborn my boss was being. I tried to reason with him, but he wouldn’t budge. I could tell that he was not going to change his mind, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I started a petition and got all of my coworkers to sign it. We all agreed that this policy was unfair and that it should not be implemented. We submitted the petition to my boss, but he still refused to change his mind.
At this point, I was starting to get really frustrated. I felt like I had done everything I could to try and convince my boss to change his mind, but nothing had worked. It seemed like he was determined to make us all contribute to this fund, no matter what.
In the end, we forced his hand and did a mass resignation.
Our reason was simple, most of us are married and did not have time for such office recreation activities.
