High-Speed Car Chase in Toa Payoh Ends in Crash, Two Men Arrested for Suspected Drug Trafficking and Other Offences
A dramatic car chase through the streets of Toa Payoh came to a sudden end when the vehicle crashed into a traffic light pole, resulting in the arrest of two men for suspected drug trafficking, consumption, and possession of controlled substances, as well as other offences.
According to the police, the incident began at around 2:05 pm on July 27, when a call for assistance was received at Block 177 Toa Payoh Central. Upon arrival, officers spotted a car speeding away from the scene, which subsequently skidded at the junction of Lorong 3 and Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.
The 27-year-old driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly detained by pursuing officers. The 25-year-old passenger was also apprehended by the police. Both men were conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.
A Facebook video of the accident, which has been viewed over 34,000 times, shows the black car traveling along Lorong 3 Toa Payoh with two police cars in hot pursuit. As the car turns into Lorong 4 Toa Payoh, it mounts the pavement, crashes into a traffic light pole, and comes to a stop. The video captures the moment when one of the police cars stops next to the black car, while the other stops behind the suspects’ vehicle. As police officers approach the car, a man springs out of the vehicle and flees, with two police officers giving chase.
Suspected Drug-Related Offences and Other Charges
The police have revealed that the driver has been arrested for suspected trafficking, consumption, and possession of controlled drugs, as well as the possession of scheduled weapons and a forged driving license. He will also face investigations for driving without a valid license, driving without valid insurance, and careless driving.
The passenger has been arrested for suspected trafficking, consumption, and possession of controlled drugs, as well as the possession of an offensive weapon.
Upon searching the vehicle, police officers discovered a knuckleduster, a knife, substances suspected to be controlled drugs, and drug paraphernalia. The suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau, and investigations are currently underway.
