The Singapore Police said that e-commerce scams involving electronic gadgets on Carousell have been on the rise, with the scammers producing a fake police report to support their claims that their retail services are verified by the government.
The sellers would then direct victims to conduct transactions through outside platforms instead of the online shopping platforms and communicate through Telegram instead.
They would then instruct the victims to transfer payment to a bank account given by the “seller” before they could proceed with the delivery.
The victims would then realize that they have been scammed after they failed to receive their orders and the seller becoming MIA.
The police reminded the public that government agencies do not endorse commercial entities and that such police reports are fake.
If ever in doubt, pleade do not hesitate to verify the authenticity of police reports by calling the relevant police station.
