The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) spoke to CNA on 10 February and said that they have not received any complaints relating to the alleged mislabelling of NTUC FairPrice’s food products.
They have also advised consumers to conduct their own checks on the weight of the pre-packaged foods should they have any doubts on the stated weight.
This is in response to the recent spate of consumers taking to social media to highlight the alleged discrepancies between the actual weight and the stated weight of pre-packaged foods such as chicken and salmon.
NTUC also previously apologised for the incidents and said that they would be investigating the incidents.
They added that their weighing scales are maintained twice a year and that they are independently calibrated by authorized vendors certified by the authorities.
The supermarket chain also added that they have additional protocols in place, such as requiring their stores to check the weighing scales daily before operating.
NTUC said that “fresh products that have already been labeled will also have the weight rechecked to ensure label accuracy”, and that the mislabelling incidents were probably caused by human error.
