Was waiting for instruction to move off one time in outfield, and my helmet touches a random branch with hundreds of ants on it. And abt a min later, when i realised there was an ant biting my neck. It was already too late, my head my back and my whole body was full of ants.☠️ My whole section come over and help me to remove them
During the enemy movement, we had to take cover behind trees, and unknowingly there was a huge ant hill on the tree, so whoever was at that tree had their uniforms filled with ants
While cleaning up for the night, a few soldier ants took out a small chunk of my toes. It was bleeding but worst part was as I pluck the, the head remained still biting my toes. I removed them and used my smuggled mini first aid kit to fix it the wounds. It bled quite a lot. Fun fact about soldier ants, they are great surtures. If u have a deep cut in the wild, find soldier ants, bite and seal the wound. Good stuff The wild one was during night patrol my guys heard a duck quacking by one of the platoon’s camps. (this is a sign of a pontianak). Act blur never hear anything.
There was a quite big reddish black centipede which fell down from a tree near my sectionmate and then ran back up the tree. Was quite scared to sleep for the subsequent nights.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke in Parliament earlier today on a number of issues, addressing the recent scandal involving former speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan Jin and former Member of Parliament Cheng Li Hui, as well as touching on the subject of Minister of Transport S. Iswaran’s investigation by the Corrupt Practices and Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
He also made reassurances to Singaporeans that the PAP take their responsibility of governing Singapore seriously, and that they will protect the integrity of their system of government.
Snippet of PM Lee’s Ministerial Statement
Mr Speaker, Sir – there has been a great deal of public interest over the recent series of incidents – CPIB arresting and investigating a Minister, MPs resigning, and before that the allegations about the Ridout rentals.
The way we have handled these incidents shows how seriously the PAP takes our responsibility of governing Singapore, and being accountable to Parliament and to Singaporeans.
Let me assure Members: When such issues come up, we will deal with them properly and transparently – as we have done. With the Ridout rentals, when allegations of preferential treatment surfaced, the two Ministers involved were thoroughly investigated, including by CPIB, and eventually fully exonerated. The investigation reports were tabled in Parliament, and we had a long session answering MPs’ questions in this House. When CPIB discovered, on its own, that it had reason to arrest and interview a Minister, it opened a formal investigation. Nobody tipped them off. There had been no public scandal. CPIB came across something that needed investigating, and proceeded to do their job. When the Speaker of Parliament and a government MP fell short of the standards of propriety and personal conduct expected of them, they were asked to resign. We took some time to sort it out, probably longer than we should have. But we did what we needed to do, and put the situation right.
The two CPIB investigations, and the response to the personal misconduct case, show two aspects of how this PAP Government works. One, when there is suspicion or allegation of wrongdoing in the discharge of official duties, especially possible corruption, there is zero tolerance. Two, when people slip in their personal lives, the PAP will look at the facts of each case carefully, and deal with the matter as humanely and sensitively as possible, according to the principles that the Party has established.
Systems are composed of human beings. In any system, however comprehensive the safeguards, sometimes something will still go wrong. The PAP Government does our utmost to minimise that possibility. We work hard to identify the right people to bring into politics, and appoint into responsible positions. We vet them carefully, test and stretch them, before entrusting them with heavier responsibilities. Often they measure up, but sometimes they fall short. Occasionally they transgress norms of conduct, or commit wrongdoing.
Singapore has seen corruption cases involving political office holders in the past: Mr Tan Kia Gan in 1966, he was then former Minister of National Development, Mr Wee Toon Boon in 1975, he was then a Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment, Mr Teh Cheang Wan in 1986, he was Minister for National Development and earlier in 1979, Mr Phey Yew Kok, then President of NTUC and also an MP. All these cases were handled by Mr Lee Kuan Yew who was then Prime Minister – thoroughly, transparently, and applying the full force of the law. That is still how the PAP Government deals with such cases. It has not changed under my charge; and it won’t change under my successor either.
Let me assure Singaporeans that we will protect the integrity of our system of government. For the good of our country, we will carry through what needs to be done in accordance with the law, even if it may be politically embarrassing and painful to the party. I will not flinch or hesitate to do my duty, to keep our system robust and clean. This is how the PAP Government can continue to deserve the trust that Singaporeans have placed upon us.
I have spoken often about how precious trust is and how crucial it is for our democracy to work well. The founding generation built up Singapore and entrusted it to our generation in good shape. It is incumbent on us to protect and uphold this system, to keep it incorruptible and clean, and maintain high standards of propriety. With the investigation into Minister Iswaran, and the resignations of the Speaker and an MP, the PAP has taken a hit, but we will show Singaporeans that we will uphold standards and do the right thing, so that trust is maintained, and the Singapore system continues to work well.
This is my approach, and I am confident it will be my successor’s approach too. This is how we will keep Singapore safe, strong and prosperous for many years to come.

On the CPIB investigation involving Minister Iswaran.
Briefly, the facts of the case are these: While investigating a separate matter, CPIB came across some information concerning Minister Iswaran that merited investigation. CPIB alerted me on 29 May, and pursued this lead further on their own volition. On 5 July, Director CPIB briefed me on the findings he had at that point. He told me that CPIB would need to interview Minister Iswaran to take the investigation further, and he sought my concurrence to open a formal investigation. I gave my concurrence the next day, 6 July. On 11 July, Minister Iswaran was brought in by CPIB and subsequently released on bail. I instructed him to take leave of absence until the investigations were completed.
Subsequently, I interdicted Minister Iswaran from duty with a reduced pay of $8,500 per month, until further notice. Such incidents involving ministers are rare, and there is no rule or precedent on how to effect an interdiction on a Political Office Holder. Hence, I used the current civil service practice as a reference point. The specific details in Minister Iswaran’s case follow generally how the civil service would deal with a senior officer in a similar situation. But this was my decision as Prime Minister, because the political contexts for a minister and a civil servant being investigated and interdicted are different.
I should point out that CPIB investigations are still ongoing. I am unable to provide more details on the case, so as not to prejudice the investigations in any way. I ask Members of this House and the public to refrain from speculation and conjecture. We must allow CPIB to do its work, to investigate the matter fully, thoroughly and independently. When the investigation is completed, CPIB will submit its findings to the Attorney General’s Chambers, which will decide what to do with them. Whichever way the facts come out, the case will be taken to its logical conclusion. That has always been our way.

Snippet of PM Lee’s Ministerial Statement
On the resignations of former Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin and former MP Cheng Li Hui.
Let me recap some basic facts, that are mostly already public: I first learnt of their relationship sometime after the 2020 General Election – in fact, in November 2020. They were both spoken to, and counselled, separately. They both said they would stop the affair. But as it turned out, they did not. Most recently in February 2023, I spoke to them again, separately. Mr Tan admitted that what he did was wrong. He offered to resign, I accepted. But I told him that before he actually resigned, I had first to make sure residents in Kembangan-Chai Chee (his ward) and Marine Parade (his GRC) were taken care of. Meanwhile, his relationship with Ms Cheng had to stop. A few weeks ago, I came across information that strongly suggested that the affair had continued. I decided that Mr Tan had to go forthwith. Ms Cheng had to resign too, because she had not broken off the affair even after being told to stop.
I have been asked: Why did I take so long, more than 2 years, to act? It is a fair question. In retrospect and certainly now knowing how things eventually turned out, I agree. I should have forced the issue sooner. But let me explain my general approach, as well as my thinking at that point in time.
These sorts of relationships happen from time to time. They have happened in the past, and no doubt will happen again in the future. In such cases, what we do depends on many factors: the circumstances, how inappropriate or scandalous the behaviour was, the family situations. We also have to be conscious of the impact on innocent parties – particularly the spouses and children. I had explained this at my press conference on 20 July. So did DPM Lawrence Wong last week in a BBC interview. This is not a new position – it reflects the PAP’s long-standing practice, since the days of Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
There is no single template that applies to all extra-marital affairs. But there can be at least three situations: The first situation – where the individuals involved will be talked to, and if they stop, the matter ends there. No further action need be taken. Second situation – where immediate action has to be taken. For example, when one party has supervisory power over the other party. And we have in the past taken immediate action, in a few cases. Third situation – where the relationship raises some questions of propriety, beyond it being an extra marital affair per se. The parties will be talked to, but the matter cannot end there. Even if the affair stops, some action has to follow. But what that action is and when it is taken, depends on the nature of the facts and the boundaries that have been transgressed.
The present situation falls into this third category. It is wrong. Mr Tan and Ms Cheng had to stop their affair. I told them to stop.
In deciding what more should be done, consider this: Would we object to having a Speaker being married to an MP? I think the answer is no – that would be perfectly alright. There is no direct reporting line between the Speaker and an MP. Thus, an open, legitimate relationship between the Speaker and an MP is not in itself objectionable. Hence, this situation of the Speaker having an affair with an MP does not fall into the category where immediate action has to be taken. However, the Speaker has some official capacity vis-a-vis MPs. An extra-marital affair between him and an MP is therefore problematic. It puts other MPs and staff in an awkward position, and it is just not proper. After I spoke to Mr Tan in November 2020, he told me that the relationship would end. I took it to be so. I therefore felt there was some leeway to take some time, to decide what further steps to take.
In this context, the possible actions that could have followed were: On the basis that the extra-marital affair had stopped, I would have asked Mr Tan to step down as Speaker some time before the end of the term, but in a way which would reduce the public embarrassment to him and his family. As to whether one or both should also resign as MPs – I had not decided at that time, but quite likely both would have had to leave at some point. By giving the matter some time, I had hoped to give them a softer exit, and save them and their families the pain and embarrassment that they are suffering now. I placed much weight on protecting their families – perhaps too much.
Regrettably, in the end Mr Tan and Ms Cheng did not stop the affair, and both had to go. On reflection, as I said, I should have forced the issue earlier, certainly before mid-term.
Let me add a personal plea at this point: while there is no doubt the two persons behaved improperly, there are also innocent family members involved. Likewise for the case involving a former member across the aisle, in the Workers’ Party. All their families are suffering. I hope that MPs and the public can empathise and have compassion for the families, and give them the privacy and space they need to heal.
Timeline of events of Tan Chuan Jin and Cheng Li Hui’s affair
General Elections (GE) 2020
PM Lee said that he was made aware of Tan and Cheng’s illicit relationship after the GE2020, and although he doesn’t know when their “inappropriate relationship” had begun, both of them were spoken to and counselled about the matter.
February 2023
PM Lee had a conversation with Tan about the relationship that he had with Cheng, to which the former admitted to his wrongdoing and offered his resignation from his posts, which PM Lee duly accepted.
However, PM Lee said that he needed to ensure the residents under Tan’s constituency (the Kembangan-Chai Chee ward in Marine Parade GRC) were taken care of first, as well as settling the succession matters with the other MPs that included the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, Edwin Tong and Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng.
In the meantime, he had to stop his relationship with Cheng; PM Lee also spoke to Cheng about the relationship as well.
The period after February 2023
PM Lee revealed that he “came across information that strongly suggested that the relationship had continued,” despite his instructions to Tan to stop the inappropriate relationship with Cheng.
PM Lee then decided that regardless of whether the arrangements were ready, Tan “had to go”.
April 2023 Parliament Sitting
During a parliamentary sitting in April, Tan uttered a profanity under his breath, which was overheard on the microphone that was still on at the time, and subsequently circulated online.
Tan was heard muttering the phrase “f-g populist” at the 1:25:28 minute mark of MCI’s livestream after calling for MP Vikram Nair (PAP-Sembawang) to speak following a speech by Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim on the absence of an “official poverty line” in Singapore.
However, the remark went unnoticed at the time during the parliament sitting and in the live-streamed video.
10 July 2023
Tan’s “f-g populist” remark was discovered by a netizen who posted the clip online and subsequently went viral across social media platforms.
11 July 2023
Tan then took to his Facebook profile to issue a public apology, where he said:
“There is a recording of a Parliament sitting in April this year that has been circulating. I had to listen to the recording as I did not recall the occasion.”
“Based on the clip it appears that I had a reaction to a speech made in the chamber.”
“When I listen to speeches made, like everyone, I do form views on them. What was said were my private thoughts which I had muttered to myself and not to anyone.”
“However I should not have expressed them aloud or in unparliamentary language, and I apologise for that.”
“I have also spoken to the Member, A/P Jamus Lim, to make that apology as well; which he has kindly accepted.”
Jamus Lim then commented on Tan’s Facebook post and confirmed that “Speaker did indeed call, and I have accepted his apology.”
17 July 2023
Tan returned after going away for a while, submitting his resignation to PM Lee.
PM Lee said in his first public comments addressing the situation that he had “very recently” came across new information that Tan had continued his relationship with Cheng despite telling him to stop.
During their discussion, Tan agreed to leave immediately, because of his inappropriate relationship with Cheng, as well as the hot mic saga in Parliament.
At the same time, Cheng also resigned from her post.
As of today, all public entertainment (PE) operators in Orchard Towers, with the exception of one outlet, have ceased providing public entertainment in compliance with the Police’s directive. The remaining outlet has been granted an interim two-month extension of its PE license by the Public Entertainment Appeal Board (PEAB) pending a decision on its appeal.
The Police had previously informed business operators and property owners of PE outlets in Orchard Towers that no new PE licenses would be granted, and existing licenses would not be renewed beyond 31 May 2023. This policy decision was part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to manage the law-and-order situation and address disamenities in the area.
Singapore Police Force’s statement
ALL PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT OUTLETS AT ORCHARD TOWERS HAVE CEASED PROVIDING PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT EXCEPT FOR ONE
As of 1 August 2023, all the public entertainment (PE) operators in Orchard Towers* have ceased providing public entertainment, except for one PE outlet which had filed a statutory appeal to the Public Entertainment Appeal Board (PEAB). Pending the decision on the appeal, the PEAB has granted the outlet an interim two-month extension of its PE licence until 30 September 2023 or until such time that the decision of the PEAB is made, whichever is earlier.
On 15 July 2022, the Police had informed business operators and property owners of PE outlets in Orchard Towers* that the Police would not grant new PE licences, or renew PE licences for existing outlets beyond 31 May 2023. This was a policy decision as part of the Government’s continued efforts to manage the law-and-order situation and disamenities in the area.
On 12 April 2023, after considering an appeal made by the PE operators and the Singapore Nightlife Business Association, the Police agreed to extend their PE licences until July 2023 to further facilitate their transition to alternative arrangements. The operators were also informed that there would be no further renewal of PE licenses thereafter.

Hi, My (F20) boyfriend (M20) keeps calling me fat, fatty, piggy en another thing like that. I’ve told him serveral times I don’t like that he calls me like that.
Even tho I am not really fat, yes I have some fat, but not like obese and I’m no model either. But just healthy you know?
He has like this perfect 6 pack body, doesn’t matter what or how much he eats. He just doest get fat at all. And that is annoying for me.
What can I do to make him stop? It’s just not fun anymore and he keeps telling me it’s just a joke. But it’s making me really doubt myself.
And yes, I’ve told him that.
Edit:I realise now that he is bullying me and I should no longer accept his behavior. We have been together for 2 years and I love him for a lot of things, I will bring it to the table one more time next week after his finals. We all know what I should do if he denies and keeps going. And I will. Thanks for all the love and support
Here is what netizens think:
I’m sure he does have a lot of good qualities, but this one is not one of them and it legit – hurts you.
He needs to wake up and smell the coffee and be nice to others.
You don’t make him stop. You leave him and look for someone who doesn’t get off on degrading you and then is so cowardly that he hides behind the ‘just joking’ excuse.
Look. You asked him to stop doing something that hurts your feelings and he won’t. He’s a grade A douche and he’s treating you badly. This is a red flag, especially when he knows it hurts your feelings and he’s still belittling you.
If one of your friends was in the same situation what would you tell them? You deserve happiness and to be with someone who loves you unconditionally.
Leave the dude to his mirror, is his name Narcissus?
I was walking my dog and suddenly heard a loud thump, looked over and saw people screaming and i heard a loud meow and saw this.
Took awhile to find the owner but it is an auntie from 13 floor. And she came down 30minsutes after the incident when cat already dead.
13 FLOOR. Imagine the pain this poor cat went through… Called SPCA which directed me to AVS which took 2 hours to arrive but cat already died 30mins after incident.
When owner came down she did not ask what happened or say thanks. Instead she used a very accusatory tone and questioned if i took picture of her cat, which i replied yes because AVS and SPCA requested me to whatsapp pictures of the cat to them.
She then scolded me and ask me not to put pictures online as she did not want her daughter to see them, it seems like she wanted to hide the cats death from her daughter who is a poly student at school at time of incident.
I questioned her and asked why the cat can fall down and she tried to lie to me but ultimately confess that she was putting out clothes to dry so she left the window open.
To all pet owners, please be responsible if you want to own a pet. Your pet only has you and YOU owe it to them to take care of them to the best of your ability.
Such nonsense like leaving open window is totally inexcusable, ESPECIALLY ON 13 FLOOR. Makes me wonder if the family even meshed their windows, how can such irresponsible people be allowed to have pets?
PLEASE if you have cats or know anyone who has cats please tell them to mesh their windows and be careful to not leave any windows open to prevent such incidents from happening.
On August 1, a video was captured showing a physical altercation between two men, believed to be a taxi driver and a personal mobility aid (PMA) user, in the car park of an HDB estate, possibly located at Hougang Avenue 5.
The fight was recorded by residents of one of the nearby flats, and voices off-camera provided a hilarious running commentary explaining the events leading up to the altercation.
According to the commentary, the taxi driver was reversing his vehicle when the PMA user got in the way. The taxi was seen parked awkwardly, suggesting it had stopped halfway while reversing, with the PMA on its right-hand side on the road.
Prior to the physical altercation, there was a commotion involving shouting in dialect, though it wasn’t clear what was said.
The driver appeared to shout at the PMA user, who had walked away towards the bottom of the block of flats, to return and settle the matter face-to-face. The PMA user returned with a mop in hand to confront the driver.
A passerby tried to intervene, but the PMA user ignored it and used the mop to hit the driver, who blocked the blow with his left arm.
The PMA user managed to land three blows before the driver counterpunched with a clean right, knocking the PMA user to the ground. The driver then continued with a series of consecutive blows.
The altercation escalated further as the driver attempted to wrest the mop handle away from the PMA user. The PMA user didn’t give up easily and fought back, even putting the driver in a headlock.
However, the driver regained control, smacking the PMA user’s head with the mop twice, causing him to momentarily fall to the ground.
At this point, a woman and a man in a blue singlet intervened to stop the fight. They managed to separate the two men, and two more men stepped in to break up the proceedings.
Maintaining fitness and staying in shape can be a challenging task, but there are individuals in our community who go above and beyond, setting remarkable standards for the rest of us.
Recently, a Singaporean police officer caught the attention of netizens online when a video of him performing an astonishing 60 push-ups in just 35 seconds went viral on social media.
The police officer, identified as Benjamin Cheah, goes by the username @drbenhattan on TikTok. In a 46-second clip, he showcased his physical prowess by executing 60 push-ups in just 35 seconds on the ELISS machine, designed for the Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT).
The Perfect Form and Maximum Score
Throughout the video, Cheah flawlessly maintained his form, ensuring each push-up was precise and well-executed. His primary goal was to achieve the maximum score on the IPPT machine, and he undoubtedly accomplished that with flying colors.
He hit the maximum score of 60 reps in just 35 seconds, with no no-counts recorded on the notoriously hard to clear ELISS machine.
After the video was shared, it quickly spread across various social media platforms, garnering widespread attention and appreciation. Many people admired Cheah’s stamina and dedication, applauding him for his exceptional performance.
Form Matters: A Few Skeptics
While the majority praised Cheah for his outstanding achievement, some skeptics raised doubts about the accuracy of the machine’s count and questioned the quality of his push-ups, with some of them claiming that the machine was faulty.
In response to the skepticism, Cheah posted a follow-up video, addressing the concerns and clarifying the machine’s capabilities.
He emphasized that the machine could detect proper push-ups accurately and consistently. Drawing from his own experience and that of others, he assured viewers that any compromise in form would result in a “no count” by the machine.
Proper Push-Up Technique
To shed light on the correct way to perform push-ups, Cheah shared valuable insights. He explained that a proper push-up involves lowering the chest to a fist’s length away from the ground while keeping the back straight.
Additionally, one must straighten their elbows while coming up. By following these guidelines, anyone can achieve a perfect push-up with enough practice.
Addressing those who struggle with push-ups, Cheah offered words of motivation and encouragement. He emphasized that, with dedication and practice, achieving 60 push-ups in 35 seconds is a realistic goal for anyone.
Sharing his personal journey, he inspired fellow servicemen and individuals facing similar challenges to believe in their abilities.
@drbenhattan A proper push up count/form for IPPT must strictly adhering to these 3 criteria: (1) Chest down to fist length from the ground. (2) Elbows straighten when up. (3) Maintaining straight back through out. Every rep was executed in proper form but not easily detected by our eyes due to the speed of execution. Any compromise in form will result in 'no count' by the machine and personnels who ever tried it can attest to it. I've made a video comparison of 3 proper form push-ups – One is the official MINDEF video demonstration on the proper push-up form for IPPT, another is a world record attempt for maximum push-ups in 30 seconds, and lastly is my attempt but slowed down 3x speed. The video was taken for the sake of "IPPT Push-ups" and with the criteria stated, I believed I would have cleared the doubts of the critics. Clocking 60 proper push-ups in less than a minute is totally achievable! Indeed the machine is strict, but it is also fair without human bias/error. For our fellow servicemen who face troubles with push-ups, I assure you that you can do it too with enough practice! If I can do it, so can you. Don't give up! Lastly, apart from the "less-friendly" comments, I am glad to see many righteous and sensible people coming forward to not just debunk, but also defend against the negativity. Lets spread more positivity and be encouraging to each other in the fitness community! In a heart-wrenching tale of unimaginable cruelty, a 34-year-old man subjected his two-month-old daughter and two-year-old son to severe physical ill-treatment, causing grievous injuries and lifelong trauma.
By cunningly instigating his wife to lie to the police, he managed to conceal his heinous crimes for a while. However, justice caught up with him as he was sentenced to 10 years and four weeks’ jail, along with 12 strokes of the cane, according to Channel NewsAsia.
What happened?
The tragic story begins in May 2018 when the man, whose identity cannot be revealed due to a court order protecting the identities of the victims, unleashed his violent rage upon his two-month-old daughter.
Frustrated with her cries, he shook her violently, causing a skull fracture, bleeding on the surface of her brain, two fractured ribs, and bleeding in her eyes.
The injuries were a result of the infamous “shaken baby syndrome,” which is a form of ill-treatment that can have life-altering consequences.
When the man’s wife returned from the shower to find the baby in distress, she took immediate action, taking the child to the hospital the next day.
The man, fearing the repercussions, deceived the police by denying knowledge of how the injuries occurred and providing false explanations, suggesting the injuries might have come from a bed bug or mosquito bite.
He cunningly shifted blame onto another child, accusing them of being responsible for the injuries.
Fortunately, the truth came to light when medical professionals identified the injuries as non-accidental, leading to the involvement of the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).
In August 2018, the baby was placed in foster care, and in September 2019, the couple’s son, born after the incident, was also placed in foster care. Despite the intervention, the children were allowed to spend weekends with their parents.
Repeated violence on his son
In September 2021, the man subjected his two-year-old son to a similar burst of violence. The young boy, expressing reluctance to stay at his parents’ flat, faced the wrath of his father’s anger.
The man repeatedly shoved the child’s head, causing him to fall repeatedly and vomit. The boy developed seizures, and his father’s attempts at CPR only heightened the severity of the situation.
Following his arrest, the man underwent a mental health assessment, which revealed that he did not suffer from any mental illness. However, the assessment indicated that he lacked insight into his behavior and had a poor understanding of a child’s cognitive maturity and emotional needs.
Additionally, he displayed a tendency to downplay his actions and seemed unaware of appropriate disciplinary methods for children.
Court proceedings
Prosecutors demanded justice for the innocent victims and sought a sentence of between 10 years and four weeks to 11 years and six weeks, along with 12 strokes of the cane. They emphasized the need to send a clear message that the law would not tolerate parents inflicting violence on their children.
