28 Y.O WOMAN’S MUM TREATS HER LIKE XMM, CAN’T STAY OUT LATE & NEED TO REPORT LOCATIONS

0

Controlling SG mum and how to deal with that?

I (28F) have a conservative mother who still treats me like a 15 yold. She would want to know where am I, who am I going with.

And on nights if I stay out late or overnight, I have to inform her beforehand if not she will call me multiple times and if I did not pick up she will be ANGRY the next day I see her.

When I inform her I’m staying out late, she would often dissuade me and I have to do a lot of persuasion and explanation as to why I’m going out.

She said she’s worried. So I’ve been trying to avoid conflict and jus do my due diligence to inform her. But the next day when I come home she would still be angry-ish?

I start to think that as a 28yold, do i still have to go through this every single time i choose to hang out late? Why do asian/sgporean parents still do that to their kids? Please advise.

  1. Actually…. You could give her a taste of her own medicine. I did this to my mum when she was getting too overbearing. Anytime she looked like she was going out, I would ask her where she is going, who is she going to be with, what she wa gonna do, what time will she be home, what will she be having for dinner, and “do you think that it is appropriate to go out in a sleeveless blouse and jeans?”
I would also text her when she was out, start calling her if she had not replied for 5 minutes, and then the same thing for when she came home. It’s already 10 minutes past 10 and you said you’ll be home at 10, why are you not home yet??? It’s not safe for a woman like you to be out this late you know?!
  2. It stopped when I moved out, for NS (volunteered to stay in) , then uni (stay in hall), I did move back in for a bit but there were lots of clashes.
I fully moved out to my own place now, and relationship with her has been much better.
TL;DR you will forever be a child in your mum’s eyes, until you move out.
  3. Angry then angry lor. You did your part by informing her. If she wants to be upset, that’s a choice of her own.
Personally, these sorts of issues are never really solved unless you decide to push back (which will definite cause some tension) or just move out. There’s no easy or painless solution.
I had similarly overprotective parents when I was in my early twenties; eventually I started rebelling, stopped asking for permission or telling them anything. They were angry at first and we constantly clashed for almost a year. But eventually, they relented and gave me my independence. But it wasn’t easy to get to that point.

WOMAN DUMPED BY BF BECAUSE OF HER LACK OF NEHNEHPOKs, SAYS IT’S A “HUGE TURN OFF”

0

Some weeks ago my mom was diagnosed with cancer, it’s not too late but it could’ve been diagnosed earlier, still, radiation and chemotherapy it’s needed and we’re worried about her.

When she got diagnosed, in tears she finally told me something I didn’t known: My Grandma died because of cancer, almost at the same time my aunt did.

I have 5 aunts (6 if I count the one who passed away years ago) and all of them checked themselves, two of them even found some early bumps who without much struggle they got rid off.

The others still needs to check every couple of months, my cousins too. She told me this so I can get checked immediately.

I was (and still am) pissed at her. She decided not to tell me that cancer is something that apparently runs through our family, and waited just because she’s the one suffering it now.

She said she was in negation, and that she never thought it would happen to her since she got checked only ONCE and everything seemed normal.

I got checked and, yes, you guessed it: I have high risk of getting cancer.

One of my cousins also had very high risk of cancer, so she decided to extirpate her bosoms and deal with the problem right away.

I talked with her and she didn’t encouraged me to follow her steps, but I asked, and she answered, and that’s how I ended up deciding to also take mine off for my own health.

My mom surprisingly was very acceptive of my decision, and we both agreed with the pros and cons of the surgery.

Here’s when my bf enters the scene. He was with me the whole process of my stress, from my mom’s diagnosis to my own, and he was with me all the time, reassuring me that he’s with me and he’s own my side so no matter what I want to do, but getting a double mastectomy wasn’t part of deal I guess.

When I told him to say goodbye to my bobas because they’re gonna leave eventually, his face dropped. “Really?” was the one first thing he said.

I explained to him everything, how my cousin also got a mastectomy and how it’s not 100% sure that I’m going to be cancer free, but it’s the best option for me and the one I decided to pick.

He said “Oh… Cool I guess”, he seemed in shock and tried to play it off, but I could feel the shift on his attitude and eventually I felt so uncomfortable I had to leave his house.

This morning I woke up with some screenshots one common friend we have sent me, and said he cannot hide this from me knowing how in the wrong my bf is in.

My bf basically said that he looked up aftermath photos of mastectomies and he’s grossed out by the scars, and how weird and masculine my chest is gonna look like after it.

He said that he loves me and my body, but he’s a bewbs guy, and that the fact that his “Perfect girl” is now gonna lose the best part of her it’s a big turn off for him.

After explaining his stupid reasoning, he also asked my friend on how to bring this up to me without looking like a jerk, but my friend called him out and told him that there’s absolutely no way to explain his reasoning without looking like a dumbass, and my bf decided to suck it up and just not bring it up to me ever, and that eventually he’s gonna find an excuse to break up with me without making it obvious.

I’m devastated. My life it’s literally in danger and his biggest worry is that he’s not gonna be able to touch bewbs again? What?!

My surgery is in five days, I’m nervous and now I’m depressed because the person who supposedly supported my decisions is planning on how to break up with me because I decide to look up for my health.

He’s an idiot, a stupid childish idiot, but still he managed to twist and add an insecurity it wasn’t there. I didn’t mind the operation, I couldn’t care less not having bewbs again, but now all this ideas of scars and blood, and the masculinization of my body is taking a toll on me.

I just wanted to vent here, that’s all. Thanks for reading if you did.

GRABFOOD RIDER WHO ATTACKED MAN, WAS UPSET BY PEDESTRIAN WALKING & USING PHONE

A video was previously shared online showing an altercation between a visibly agitated Grabfood rider and another man, with the rider attacking the latter and swinging punches at the man.

However, another video has since emerged showing another POV of the incident, revealing how the altercation arose.

Not happy about pedestrian using phone while walking

The entire incident took place along Yishun Avenue 2 on 13 July at about 5.16pm when the Grabfood rider was on his PMA as he maneuvered through a walkway.

He was seen in the video screaming at a pedestrian using their phone while walking, shouting at them to move out of the way.

The pedestrian’s actions triggered the initial argument. However the video footage did not capture the pedestrian’s response to the PMA rider’s concerns.

It is unclear what exactly happened as an elderly woman was also seen in the video, appearing to be trying to intervene as the cameraman filmed the rider and told him to wait for the police.

As the PMA rider attempted to leave the scene, the male passerby, who was recording the incident, stepped in and blocked his path. He asserted that the PMA rider should wait for the police to arrive and address the situation properly.

Despite the male passerby’s attempt to mediate, the situation quickly turned volatile. The PMA rider accused the passerby of damaging his vehicle and demanded compensation.

The rider was seen in the video shouting at the man “WHY YOU KICK MY CAR FOR WHAT! I ASK YOU! WHY YOU KICK MY CAR!” Referring to his PMA as his “car”.

He dismounted from his mobility aid and advanced aggressively towards the passerby, throwing punches after punches at the man.

Throughout the confrontation, the male passerby remained steadfast in documenting the incident.

The authorities were made aware of the incident, and a report was filed with the police and police investigations into the incident are currently underway.

MAN SCARED & ALONE INSIDE BUS @ LIM CHU KANG FOR 15 MINS, WHILE DRIVER WENT TO PEE

On a seemingly ordinary Thursday (14 July), a TikTok user with the handle @ladiesman217.__ shared a rather unusual experience onboard a Service Number 975 bus in Singapore.

The video captured a 15-minute “ordeal” that the passenger “endured” as the bus driver made a stop to relieve himself leaving the man spooked.

The Unusual Pit Stop

According to the TikTok post, the bus driver brought the vehicle to a sudden halt along Lim Chu Kang and got out, leaving the door open and everything turned off.

The reason? Nature called, and he needed to take a restroom break. While it’s not uncommon for bus drivers to step away temporarily for personal necessities, the passenger was spooked by the eerie surroundings and the darkness of the bus.

The Spooky Surroundings

The setting of the impromptu pit stop added an extra layer of creepiness to the experience. The TikTok clip showed the bus driver walking towards a blue portable toilet nearby. The location appeared to be along Lim Chu Kang Road, right outside the premises of the Police Coast Guard base.

Despite the Police Coast Guard building being well-lit, the surrounding wilderness, coupled with the darkness inside the bus, created an eerie atmosphere.

The netizen updated his video caption and said that he was aware of the bus driver’s purpose for stopping. The driver simply needed to answer nature’s call.

However, the knowledge of the reason behind the stop did little to alleviate the eerie feeling that lingered from the entire experience.

@ladiesman217.__ driver stopped the bus randomly, got out, opened the doors, turned everything off, and left. for 15 minutes. bus 975.#singapore ♬ Dimly creepy mansion (music box ver.) – ACE Fantasy

Bus service 975

A bus service 975 driver previously shared a video onto his TikTok, @yourbuscaptain, showing how creepy it is driving along Lim Chu Kang at night.

In the video, he could be seen driving the bus service 975 towards Lim Chu Kang, the bus service goes all the way to Lim Chu Kang Camp 2, and then the Chinese cemetery.

The bus travels through a stretch of road that is dark and doesn’t have any functioning street lamps, and the driver has to shine his high beam to make sure there is no one along the road, and for better visibility as well.

The road is practically secluded with not a living soul around.

He captioned his video “975 has always given me goosebumps”, as a voice narrated through his video, “journey with me on 975 at night”.

The narration continues “some places are not well lighted (SIC)”, “at least proper light for now, the thrill starts here.

“As you can see the road in front no light, send help please. This is how scary it can be driving alone.”

“Okay driver faster a bit to end point cos I scared already”

One of the netizens commented that he heard form someone that the bus needs to stop and open the door at a certain bus stop to let the spirits alight from the bus, to which the driver replies:

“Yes correct. Open door for a few seconds then just say thank you. Close door move off”.

“JAY CHOU” NOW SELLING DIM SUM @ SWEE CHOON – NETIZENS SAY BOPIAN, ECONOMY BAD

0

A netizen shared a photo of a man selling egg tarts at Swee Choon Jalan Besar, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Taiwanese mandopop singer Jay Chou on 14 July.

The moment the anonymous customer shared a photograph of the lookalike on the popular Singapore Incidents Facebook group, netizens were captivated by the resemblance.

Standing behind the counter, adorned with rows of tantalizing egg tarts, the Jay Chou doppelganger sported a simple white t-shirt embellished with Swee Choon’s iconic logo.

Despite the lack of flashiness in his appearance, there was no denying the striking similarities in his features – the small mouth, small eyes, and expressions reminiscent of the singer.

Netizens React

As the photograph circulated on social media, it didn’t take long for netizens to weigh in with their thoughts. While most saw the uncanny resemblance, some went a step further, suggesting that the Swee Choon server might even be more good-looking than Jay Chou himself.

Amidst the humorous chatter, some couldn’t resist making light-hearted jabs at Jay Chou’s singing ability. They playfully referenced his past concert in Singapore, where certain fans expressed dissatisfaction with his vocals and disappointment with the concert experience.

The Legend of Jay Chou

For the uninitiated, Jay Chou is an immensely popular Taiwanese singer, songwriter, and actor. With numerous chart-topping hits, he has earned the title of Mandopop royalty and enjoys an ardent global fan base.

Known for his unique blend of R&B, pop, and rock influences, Jay Chou has left an indelible mark on the music industry.

Other Jay Chou lookalikes

A video emerged online showing “Jay Chou” and “JJ Lin” performing a duet for a Douyin video.

Of course it isn’t really them, but rather; their significantly less-talented dopplegangers.

The JJ Lin lookalike, who goes by “俊杰烧饼” on Douyin, has a friend who looks exactly like Jay Chou and the two then started making videos together.

KOVAN HAWKER CHARGING EXTRA 10 CENTS FOR PLASTIC BAGS, CUSTOMERS NOT HAPPY

0

Singapore has been making strides towards reducing plastic waste, with supermarkets already charging 5 cents for each plastic bag to encourage eco-friendly practices.

Following this trend, a hawker stall in Kovan has decided to charge its customers S$0.10 for every plastic bag used after the first one, resulting in mixed reactions from patrons, according to 8world News.

1st bag free, subsequent ones 10 cents

A stall at the Kovan Market and Food Centre at Block 209 has introduced a new policy where the first plastic bag is provided free to customers.

However, if they require additional bags to carry their takeaway, each bag would incur an extra cost of S$0.10. The stall owner explained that many diners often requested two to three bags for their purchases, prompting the implementation of this environmentally conscious measure.

The hawker stall’s decision to charge for plastic bags aligns with Singapore’s broader efforts to become more environmentally friendly.

By encouraging customers to minimize plastic bag usage, the stall aims to contribute positively to the environment. The owner expressed the importance of hawkers not falling behind in adopting sustainable practices.

Customer Reactions

While some customers were understanding of the new charge, others found it excessive. One customer mentioned that supermarket-provided plastic bags were cheaper despite being larger.

On the other hand, another customer felt that as long as there was proper notice about the extra charge, they were fine with it.

At another hawker centre in Chong Pang, there have been reports of diners taking more plastic bags, causing concern for stall owners.

One incident involved a customer taking six bags to carry their order of noodles. To address this issue, the owner decided to remove all plastic carriers to avoid similar situations in the future.

Stall owners at various hawker centres expressed concerns about the increasing costs of plastic bags. In the past, they could purchase 20 plastic bags for S$1, but now, the same amount costs S$2, making it a financial burden for some.

While some owners were willing to forgo the charge in specific cases where customers couldn’t afford it, they emphasized the need for patrons to bring their own carriers.

52 Y.O MAN BROKE INTO TEMPLE @ BEDOK TO STEAL MONEY & DONATION BOX, ARRESTED

0

A case of housebreaking and theft took place on 12 July and occurred at the Seu Teck Sean Tong Yiang Sin Sia, a temple situated along Bedok North Ave 3 in Singapore and a 52-year-old man was arrested by the Singapore Police Force, according to a police statement.

The incident came to light when the temple caretaker, Mr. Yu, arrived at the temple on Wednesday morning at approximately 7:00 am. To his dismay, he discovered that a 200kg safe box, meant to serve as an offerings box, was missing from its spot outside a temporary tent, according to Shin Min Daily News.

This tent, housing thousands of spirit tablets, was set up during a recent expansion and renovation project undertaken by the temple in June 2023.

In addition to the missing safe box, Mr. Yu noticed that one of the offering boxes on the left side of the temple had its lock picked, and the money inside had been stolen.

Furthermore, a damaged trolley was found at the scene, presumably broken while the culprit transported the safe box away from the temple grounds.

While it was difficult to ascertain the exact amount of money stolen, given that the temple had not yet tallied the total offerings for two weeks due to the non-peak season, Mr. Yu estimated the loss to be between S$3,000 and S$5,000.

Police Response

The Singapore Police Force was promptly alerted to the case of housebreaking at around 7:20 am on the same day. Officers from the Bedok Police Division, using images obtained from CCTV cameras and police surveillance, launched ground enquiries to identify the suspect.

Following the man’s apprehension, the donation safe box, the trolley, and cash amounting to approximately S$90 were successfully recovered.

The suspect faced charges related to housebreaking and theft, offenses that carry severe penalties under Singaporean law.

If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years of imprisonment, a significant fine, and caning as part of his punishment.

Temple

The Seu Teck Sean Tong Yiang Sin Sia is a revered temple with deep historical and cultural significance in the community it serves.

The temple’s recent expansion and renovation project aimed to provide enhanced facilities for its growing number of devotees.
