The peaceful neighborhood of Ang Mo Kio was recently shaken by an incident involving two children.

On October 10, 2023, in the afternoon, an unsettling event occurred at Block 244 Ang Mio Kio Avenue 1. A video emerged online showing the two kids throwing a brick and a neighbour’s bicycle down from the 7th-floor of the HDB block.

Apology and Compensation

Following the incident, the parents of the misbehaving children have since apologised to the owner of the bicycle, as well as offering compensation, according to a resident who spoke to Shin Min Daily News.

The resident also added that the parents have also assured that they will discipline their children.

Police report lodged & police investigating

According to The Straits Times, the police are currently investigating the incident after a police report against the two children had been lodged.

The Ang Mo Kio Town Council also confirmed that they were aware of the incident, and added that they have since removed the broken bicycle from the ground floor of the HDB block, according to Channel NewsAsia.

The incident took an alarming turn when she checked the CCTV footage, revealing that two children, a boy and a girl, were responsible for throwing her bicycle down from the 7th floor.

Found her bike on the ground floor

The resident’s day took an unexpected turn when she came home after sending her children off to school, only to discover her bicycle on the ground floor, in a mangled heap.

What perplexed her was the fact that it had been securely parked on the seventh floor earlier in the day. Realizing that something was amiss, she decided to delve into her CCTV footage outside her home for answers.

Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, the resident accessed the CCTV footage. What she saw left her astounded. In the video, two children were spotted outside her unit at approximately 1:36 pm, and their actions were far from innocent.

Innocent children or satan spawn?

The video footage revealed two children, a boy, and a girl. The boy was seen carrying a brick, which he ultimately threw down the building.

Afterward, the boy and girl decided to target the bicycles parked in the corridor of the resident’s unit. With a total disregard for safety, they swiftly picked up a bicycle and tossed it off the building, fleeing the scene while laughing.

Horrified at what she saw, the resident questioned that what the kids were doing were “totally dangerous and could have gotten someone badly injured.

Cockroaches, the stuff of nightmares for many, have a peculiar way of sending even the bravest souls into a frenzy.

GermainIce, a TikTok user, found herself in the grips of this terror when she stumbled upon a cockroach in the dead of night, alone at home.

Saw a “big black thing” on the floor

In the quietude of her living room, GermainIce was thrust into a nightmare. The sight of a “big black thing” on her floor sent shivers down her spine, and in a moment of panic, she reached for her spectacles.

As her vision cleared, the terror that gripped her heart intensified; it was a cockroach. For someone with a deep-seated fear of bugs, this was a nightmarish scenario.

Her isolation made the situation all the more distressing. There was no one to turn to, no helping hand available to rid her of this unwelcome intruder. In a state of sheer helplessness, GermainIce realized she needed assistance but had nowhere to seek it.

Then, as if a stroke of providence, she remembered her ongoing Foodpanda order, en route to her home.

In a moment of desperation, she decided to send a plea for help to her food delivery rider, Desmond. The time was 3:30 AM, an unconventional hour for assistance.

Desperation drove her to share images of her cockroach nemesis with Desmond, explaining her predicament. She messaged the food delivery rider “hihi can help me catch cockroach, desperate”.

As soon as Desmond arrived at her residence, GermainIce handed him a can of insecticide to tackle the situation.

But Desmond’s response surprised her; he suggested that “tissue can already.” With a sigh of relief, GermainIce watched as the rider bravely faced the cockroach, ultimately banishing it from her home.

Rescued

In the aftermath of this ordeal, GermainIce’s gratitude was immeasurable. She had not only been rescued from the dreaded cockroach but also found herself in the presence of a hero who went beyond the call of duty.

The rider had even went a step further and helped her to throw away her bag of rubbish.

She wished to tip Desmond but was unable to do so through the app, as the delivery was already marked as complete.

Her attempt to find an alternative avenue for expressing her appreciation through Foodpanda’s customer service proved to be in vain.

Despite these obstacles, GermainIce decided to use the power of social media to extend her heartfelt thanks to Desmond, telling him that she was grateful for his help.

In a recent three-hour enforcement operation conducted by the Traffic Police (TP) last Friday evening (6 October), a total of 24 motorcyclists were caught for breaking traffic laws, according to The Straits Times.

This operation was aimed at curbing traffic violations on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) during the evening peak-hour period.

The Enforcement Operation

The TP officers wasted no time in taking action during the operation. Within the first 30 minutes, they had already apprehended eight riders who were in violation of traffic regulations.

As the operation progressed, the number of offenders increased, eventually reaching a total of 24 individuals.

Types of Violations

The violations observed during the operation were diverse and included a wide range of infractions. Some of the common violations observed were:

1. Speeding

Speeding remains a significant concern, endangering not only the motorcyclists themselves but also other road users. The TP officers were vigilant in cracking down on those who exceeded the speed limits.

2. Wearing Unapproved Helmets

Safety equipment is of paramount importance, and wearing helmets with unapproved visors poses a considerable risk to riders. Several individuals were apprehended for this infraction.

3. Riding Without a Valid License and Insurance

Operating a motorcycle without a valid license and insurance is not only illegal but also highly risky. Two individuals faced serious consequences for this offense during the operation.

Among the 24 individuals apprehended during the operation, 10 of them were riding foreign-registered motorcycles.

Alarming Statistics

The need for such enforcement operations becomes evident when we examine recent police data, which highlights a worrying trend. In the first half of this year, 32 motorcyclists or their pillion riders lost their lives in traffic accidents, a significant increase from the same period in 2022 when the number stood at 25.

Furthermore, the number of accidents involving motorcyclists increased from 1,751 in the first half of 2022 to 1,834 in the same period this year.

In a recent incident that has captured the public’s attention, a 29-year-old woman from China, Han Feizi, who filmed herself arguing with a police officer at Singapore General Hospital and claimed that she was allegedly refused medical treatment here because she is not a Singapore citizen, was charged in court facing multiple charges, including the use of insulting language towards a public servant, according to The Straits Times, The New Paper and TODAY.

The hospital has since refuted her allegations and made clarifications on the incident, saying that the woman had been thoroughly reviewed by their medical team.

Charges

She appeared in court via a video link at about 9.40am and sported a black shirt, and told the court that she will be pleading guilty and said that she was sorry for what she had done.

The woman was charged with the following:

1. one count of being a public nuisance
2. two counts of using insulting language towards a public servant
3. two counts of using criminal force on a security officer
4. harassment

The Viral Video

The incident gained widespread attention after a video was posted on the Chinese social media platform Douyin. This video depicted the police interviewing the woman, who had been accused of being insulting the hospital workers.

The Singaporean police received a call for help at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) at around 2:35 am.

In the video, the woman claimed to have waited for three hours in the hospital’s emergency department without receiving any medical attention after allegedly being hit by a car.

She further alleged that a nurse told her she would not be treated because she was not a Singaporean citizen. These claims were later disputed by SGH.

Insights from SGH

Speaking to The Straits Times, the head and senior consultant for SGH’s department of emergency medicine, Associate Professor Kenneth Tan, said that the woman was discharged after 2 hours, after she had been thoroughly reviewed by the medical staff.

Tan added that everyone who presents themselves at SGH’s emergency department will receive the medical care that they require.

The situation also escalated when the woman refused to wear a face mask and according to Professor Tan, during the triage process at the emergency department, a staff member offered her a mask, which she refused to put on, despite being reminded about the government’s guidelines on wearing masks in Singapore’s hospitals.

As the situation got increasingly heated, the woman continued to behave in an aggressive manner and the medical staff had to call the police for help, as her behaviour was affecting the hospital operations.

Douyin Videos

The woman posted two videos on Douyin, both exceeding 11 minutes. She was also seen demanding a plainclothes police officer to identify herself and attempting to grab her police lanyard.

According to ST, the Singapore Police Force said that the two plainclothes officers, who were investigations officers, had introduced themselves in front of uniformed officers before speaking to the woman.

The female police officer was seen in the video repeatedly asking the woman if she had used vulgarities on the nurse, but the woman refused to answer.

The woman refused to cooperate and used vulgarities on one of the police officers, and filmed her interview with one of the female investigation officers and sharing them on her Douyin account.

The videos, which have since been reposted on several social media platforms, have been viewed more than a million times in total.

Not her first brush with the law

The woman had a prior altercation with the law on October 3, when she was reported for an incident at a condominium in Marina Boulevard.

The police were called after she allegedly pushed a security officer and insulted him while being drunk at the time.

She is also said to have possibly breached the conditions of her work permit in Singapore, and the Ministry of Manpower has been alerted to the situation.

The police added that they will take firm action against offenders who behave against their public servants and workers who are carrying out their public duties, in accordance with the law.
