HALAL AND NON-HALAL CUTLERIES SEEN MIXED TOGETHER AT JOO KOON FOOD COURT

0

A social media user noticed a troubling issue at a food court where customers were not distinguishing between the halal and non-halal tray return sections.

The mixing of cutlery from non-halal eateries with the halal return area was observed.

On Friday (19 May), Facebook user Nasir Uddin shared an image on social media, capturing a disappointing scene at a food court near Joo Koon MRT station.

The photo depicted both the halal and non-halal tray return racks filled with various utensils, including trays, chopsticks, plates, and bowls.

However, it was evident that the halal rack contained some pieces of cutlery, plates, and bowls originating from non-halal stalls.

Nasir said that he witnessed this sight around 12:38 pm on 19 May.

He emphasized the importance of respecting individual religious beliefs, highlighting that while non-Muslims can consume halal food, Muslims are unable to consume non-halal food.

He also expressed concerns about the potential challenges faced by stalls in cleaning such mixed cutlery. Failure to utilize separate dishwashers for the different types of utensils could create further complications.

The Facebook post garnered attention and sparked discussions among netizens. Some users criticized the self-serving behavior of diners, asserting that it contributed to the issue.

Another user suggested that it could be a case of overseas visitors lacking knowledge in this regard.

It was mentioned that Singaporeans, having grown up in the country, are generally aware of how to properly return their cutlery.

Additionally, some individuals proposed including multiple languages on the tray return sections to assist those who may not understand or read English.

Netizens’ comments

  1. Not particularly pinpointing but I feel it might be our diners from overseas (possibly tourists? have witnessed it before in a hawker centre) who might be ignorant and totally unaware of our culture here.
To our Muslim friends, rest assured the other races here in SG are brought up in an environment and culture which we are taught to respect other races. We have been taught since primary school to return used utensils after meals to the correct place.
Of cos we are not perfect, there are still many bad hats around. And I’m not pointing everything at our foreign friends. Just saying it might be a possibility.
  2. I think for sensitive issues, d signage at d tray points shld incl d other official languages. Many elderly Chinese do not understand what is halal n non halal as d word itself is in Malay. Oso we shld not position d 2 tray cabinets so close to each other. The person returning trays find it convenient to return it to d wrong one when d other one is full !
  3. That’s why in Japan- it is very successful this habit of returning trays. In Singapore, there are so many issues to identify and mostly because how many units of tray collection should be given to halal and non halal. Taking into consideration of actual numbers of patrons at hawker centre and food courts- higher numbers should be given to non halal. The question is : do halal goes to a different washing point? Do they segregate the washing process between the 2 groups? How do we know what we don’t see with our eyes? We just need to trust them.

TAXI DRIVER DROVE LONGER ROUTE TO GET HIGHER FARE & LIED ABOUT TRAFFIC JAM

0

A recent incident involving a Strides cab driver has raised concerns about their ethics and service. A post shared on social media recounts a frustrating experience that serves as a cautionary tale for all cab riders.

Facebook user Gabriel Tan shared how he had hailed a cab from Marina Bay Sands with the destination set for Punggol. The most logical and efficient route would have been through the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).

However, to the passenger’s surprise, the driver drove past the KPE along the ECP. When the passenger questioned the route change, the driver claimed that there was a major accident causing a one-hour traffic jam on the KPE. He insisted that he had taken a longer route to avoid the congestion.

Curiously, as they passed by the entrance to the KPE, the passenger noticed no signs of a traffic jam. This discrepancy raised doubts about the driver’s explanation and decision-making. Furthermore, the driver failed to inform the passengers about the change in route before proceeding, leaving them feeling misled and frustrated.

To make matters worse, the fare for the trip skyrocketed from an estimated $26 or $27 to a hefty $33.75. This unexpected increase in cost left the passenger feeling taken advantage of and compelled them to take action.

In response to the incident, the dissatisfied passenger lodged a complaint with Strides and requested a refund.

Here is what he said

Avoid taking this Strides cab *license plate number redacted* driven by *name redacted*.

Yesterday, at 7 38pm, I took from marina bay sands to punggol and the appropriate way would be to take via KPE. However when he drove pass the KPE along ECP and I question him, he mention there is a major accident in the KPE which cause a 1 hour jam, end up he drove one big round via ECP back to punggol.

He said he got stuck there for 1 hour and that’s how he knew but when we drove pass KPE I don’t see any jam at the entrance going in. On top of that, he shd have highlighted us before making the decision. End up our bill is $33.75 from possibly $26/$27.

I have logded a complain and request for refund from strides. For all cab riders please before of these unethical tactics

WHOLE WALL OF 12TH STOREY FLAT IN KL GOT RIPPED OFF DURING THUNDERSTORM

Malaysia has been experiencing intense rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms, resulting in severe weather conditions. The impact of this extreme weather was evident when a wall on the 12th floor of a flat in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia was torn off.

The whole wall was apparently ripped off during the thunderstorm, leaving the unit on the 12th floor of the building being exposed.

Images and videos of the exposed flat quickly circulated on social media platforms. People on the internet are now urging for the refurbishment of the flat, which was originally built in 1968.

The initial photograph of the damaged flat was shared on Twitter by a user named @rvzlee on May 19, as reported by the New Straits Times (NST). A video showed the wall being cleanly separated, revealing the illuminated interior of the home.

Surrounding flats appeared to be undamaged by the storm. A TikTok video, presumably recorded by the resident, provided a glimpse of the view from inside the affected unit.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries resulting from this incident.

The incident not only shocked online users but also raised concerns about the building’s condition. The incident prompted calls for refurbishment efforts due to the vulnerability of the wooden walls in the Loke Yew flat, which was constructed in 1968, as noted by NST. The aged structure was unable to withstand the powerful winds, leading to its disintegration.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) swiftly addressed the situation, as reported by Bernama. Contractors were deployed on the same night to install temporary walls and began repair works the following day. As a safety precaution, the electricity supply to the affected unit was cut off, and the occupants temporarily relocated to nearby relatives’ homes.

Photos shared by Bernama on May 20 showcased the repair works in progress. Contractors were seen rebuilding the damaged wall using bricks and cement.

WOMAN WANTS TO SAVE $2 ERP FROM GRAB RIDE, ARGUES WITH GRAB DRIVER

A cheapo took a private hire ride but she was unhappy after she found out that her destination will require a $2 ERP fee.

However, she was unhappy and insisted that the driver takes a different route to save $2. The driver said that he is merely facing the GPS and it is different from taking a taxi driver.

“You want save money you wake up earlier, you want take grab you don’t choose the route”

The driver then said if you’re not happy with the ride, I can drop you at the bus stop.

In the beginning, the driver spoke in an objective and nice manner and told the woman that she can complain if she wants to.

The person who submitted the video said:

who is right who is wrong, a private hire vehicle and a rider, does the rider has the right to choose their destination route avoid the erp claim by driver that rider is cheapo, got to wake up early take MRT instead to save money or take Taxi why choose to waste driver time instead or you want me to drop you at the Bus stop easier for you.

You no money pay ERP i pay for you

The woman continued to argue and told the woman to check with LTA if private hires get to choose the route or passengers.

He then said, “If you no money I pay for you”

“You want disturb people who are working, you want me go up to your office and disturb you at work and tell your boss or not?

OFFICER ANYHOW CHOP PASSPORT, WHEN COMPLAINT THEY KENA “Refusal of Entry”

On 20 May 2023. Me and My Wife was on our way to JB, we went in via Tuas Checkpoint.

We were then stuck at Malaysia Custom for a good 1 hour because there is only 2 counters open.

When we arrived at the counter, the Officer told us to remove our passport cover “with an impolite tone”. I then removed and gave it to her, after she verified our Particulars, she then chop the passport.

And upon completing, i then stop at the side to check my passport and then i found out. The officer purposely left a blank page on my passport and for my wife passport, she chopped on page 27 (20 May 2023) before Scribble it and re chopped on page 28 (20 may 2023) for no good reason. So afterwards I park my bike at the side and walk to the office.

And when im in the office, I told the Male Officer, how do i lodge a report/complaint on the officer in counter M8, he told us to do it online, without explaining to us, he also raised his voice and tell us to do it outside of the office instead (which is no need for him to act that way) after my wife asking him few times on how to do it on the webpage he felt irritated and then took our passport and bring us to the other office at level 2 where the both of us were issued the letter “Refusal of Entry” by Asisten Superintenden “Rexsus” an Indian Female Officer.

And again the both of us seek for and explanation on why must the officer treat us this way? And also why must they issued us this “Refusal of Entry” when we just want to know the reason. She couldn’t give us an answer, yet she raised her voice and gave us a choice sarcasticly if we want to be banned from coming in malaysia 6 months or 1 year.

After everything she told us we were banned 6 months from coming in Malaysia for no valid reason.

The Officer at Counter M8 was not wearing any nametag, i couldn’t get her name, and for the Male Officer at the office level 1 wasn’t wearing a proper immigration uniform. He was just wearing a Dri Fit T Shirt and a jacket. For the Female officer who issued us the letter at Level 2 office her name is Asisten Superitenden “Rexsus”

And my last photo, 1 of my friend who was also issued the same letter by the Malaysia Immigration , I did ask her side of story, she told me her boyfriend was just questioning on why must the officer chop on the centre of the page? The officer then shouted at my friend boyfriend and bring them to the higher up office.

Now i just want a clarification on “How and What” is the proper procedure for Malaysia Immigration?

How are they supposed to chop our passport? I think this need to be standardised because its not fair for us (Singaporean) to be paying for our passport and the officer is just wasting our pages. And also please look onto this matter and do something about the officer on the ground, We understand this is their job, but the least they can do is treat us the way they want to be treated.

I just hope with this post, Malaysia Immigration take action on the procedure, the proper turnouts for an officer and also the proper way of treating “Foreigners” coming in your Country.

THE RISING COST OF TRAVELING FROM SINGAPORE TO OTHER COUNTRIES

0

Travelling has always been an enriching and transformative experience, allowing individuals to explore new cultures, broaden their horizons, and create lasting memories.

However, in recent years, the cost of travelling from Singapore to other countries has been on the rise. This surge in expenses has presented challenges for many individuals seeking to indulge their wanderlust. In this article, we delve into the factors contributing to the escalating costs and shed light on how travellers can navigate this evolving landscape.

Cost breakdown

  1. Fluctuating Fuel Prices: One significant factor influencing the rising cost of travel is the fluctuating prices of aviation fuel. Fuel costs account for a substantial portion of airlines’ operational expenses, and any increase in fuel prices can directly impact ticket prices. As oil prices continue to fluctuate, travellers may find themselves facing higher airfare rates.
  2. Infrastructure Development and Airport Fees: As countries invest in developing state-of-the-art airport facilities and infrastructure, the costs associated with these expansions are often passed on to travellers. Airport fees, such as passenger service charges, security fees, and facility charges, contribute to the overall cost of air travel. The growing demand for improved infrastructure to accommodate increasing passenger traffic has led to higher travel costs.
  3. Foreign Exchange Rates: Exchange rates play a crucial role in determining the affordability of travel expenses. Fluctuations in currency exchange rates can significantly impact the overall cost of accommodations, meals, transportation, and other travel-related expenses. Travellers may find themselves facing higher costs when their home currency weakens against the currency of their destination country.
  4. Seasonal Demand and Peak Travel Periods: During peak travel seasons or holidays, such as school breaks or festive periods, the demand for flights and accommodations escalates. Airlines and hotels often raise their prices to capitalize on the increased demand. Travelling during these periods can result in inflated costs, making it more challenging for budget-conscious travellers to find affordable options.
  5. Airline Taxes and Surcharges: In addition to base ticket fares, airlines impose various taxes and surcharges. These additional charges, such as airport taxes, fuel surcharges, and security fees, contribute to the overall cost of air travel. Depending on the destination and airline, these taxes and surcharges can vary significantly, impacting the total travel expenditure.

Navigating the Rising Costs:

While the rising costs of traveling from Singapore to other countries may seem daunting, there are strategies travelers can employ to mitigate the impact on their wallets:

  1. Plan and Book in Advance: Booking flights and accommodations well in advance can often result in better deals and lower prices. By planning ahead, travelers can secure more affordable options and take advantage of early-bird promotions.
  2. Flexibility in Travel Dates and Destinations: Being flexible with travel dates and considering alternative destinations can help travelers find more affordable options. Traveling during off-peak periods or choosing destinations with lower living costs can help reduce overall travel expenses.
  3. Research and Compare Prices: Conduct thorough research and compare prices across different airlines, travel agencies, and booking platforms. Utilize price-comparison websites and consider alternative routes or layovers to find the best deals.
  4. Consider Budget Airlines and Accommodations: Budget airlines and accommodations can offer more affordable options for travelers. While these options may come with certain limitations, they can be a cost-effective choice, especially for those on a tight budget.
  5. Budget and Prioritize Expenses: Create a realistic travel budget and identify the key areas where you are willing to allocate more funds. Prioritize experiences and activities that matter most to you while being mindful of cost-saving opportunities in other aspects of your trip.

In conclusion, as the cost of travel continues to rise, it is essential for travelers to stay informed, seek cost-saving opportunities, and adopt a budget-conscious approach. By doing so, individuals can continue to explore new destinations, experience different cultures, and create lasting memories, all while maintaining financial stability. With proper planning and an awareness of the potential financial pitfalls, Singapore’s travelers can navigate the evolving landscape of travel expenses and make their dreams of exploration a reality.

PITFALLS OF “BUY NOW, PAY LATER”: LOCAL YOUNGSTERS AND FINANCIAL TROUBLES

0

Introduction:

In recent years, a new trend has emerged in the retail world, offering consumers the allure of immediate gratification without the burden of upfront payments. “Buy now, pay later” services have gained popularity among Singapore’s youngsters, allowing them to make purchases and defer payment to a later date. While this concept may seem appealing, it has also led to a concerning rise in financial troubles for many young individuals. This article explores the pitfalls of “buy now, pay later” and sheds light on the challenges faced by Singapore’s youth when navigating these financial arrangements.

The Temptation of Instant Gratification:

The concept of “buy now, pay later” entices individuals with the promise of acquiring desired products or services immediately, often without the need for credit checks or upfront payments. With just a few clicks, young Singaporeans can access a wide range of goods and split their payments into manageable installments. This convenience, coupled with targeted marketing campaigns, has fueled its rapid adoption among the younger demographic.

Mounting Debt and Financial Strain:

Unfortunately, the allure of “buy now, pay later” can quickly spiral into a cycle of mounting debt and financial strain. Many young consumers fail to fully comprehend the long-term implications of these deferred payment arrangements. The ease of making small monthly payments can mask the overall cost of purchases, leading to overspending and accumulating debt that becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

Unforeseen Consequences and High-Interest Rates:

One of the primary concerns associated with “buy now, pay later” schemes is the potential for hidden fees and exorbitant interest rates. While these services often advertise interest-free periods or low rates, failure to repay the outstanding balance within the specified timeframe can result in substantial interest charges. These unforeseen costs can catch consumers off guard and plunge them further into financial difficulties.

Lack of Financial Literacy:

A significant contributing factor to the financial troubles faced by Singapore’s youngsters is the lack of adequate financial literacy education. Many individuals enter into “buy now, pay later” agreements without fully understanding the long-term consequences or considering their overall financial situation. Without the necessary knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively, young consumers can find themselves trapped in a cycle of debt, struggling to break free.

Tips for Responsible Financial Management:

To avoid falling into the pitfalls of “buy now, pay later,” it is essential for Singapore’s youngsters to develop responsible financial habits. Here are a few tips to consider:

  1. Budgeting and Planning: Create a comprehensive budget that encompasses your income, expenses, and debt obligations. Prioritize your spending and allocate funds wisely.
  2. Evaluate Necessity vs. Impulse: Before making a purchase, ask yourself if it is a genuine necessity or merely an impulsive desire. Consider the long-term value and impact on your financial well-being.
  3. Read the Fine Print: Thoroughly review the terms and conditions of any “buy now, pay later” agreement. Pay attention to interest rates, late payment fees, and the consequences of missed payments.
  4. Practice Self-Control: Develop discipline and resist the temptation to overspend or make unnecessary purchases. Consider waiting and saving up for larger expenses instead of relying on deferred payment schemes.
  5. Seek Financial Education: Educate yourself about personal finance management through workshops, online resources, or professional guidance. Enhancing your financial literacy will empower you to make informed decisions and avoid financial pitfalls.

Conclusion:

While “buy now, pay later” services may offer a convenient and accessible way to make purchases, Singapore’s youngsters must exercise caution and financial responsibility. The allure of immediate gratification should not overshadow the potential long-term consequences of accumulating debt and financial troubles. By fostering financial literacy and practicing responsible financial management

MAN TELLS FAKE SINGTEL CALLER TO GO “F SPIDER, MAI KAO PEH LAH”

0

In today’s increasingly digital world, where communication spans across various channels, we must remain vigilant against potential scams and fraudulent activities.

Recently, I encountered an unsettling experience when I received a call on my landline from an individual claiming to be from Singtel’s technical department. This encounter left me questioning the authenticity of the caller’s intentions and the legitimacy of their claims.

The call began with a person speaking in a strong Indian accent, asserting that there had been suspicious internet activity originating from my broadband connection in the past few days. What struck me as odd was the absence of an automated voice message typically associated with official calls.

Instead, it was a direct conversation that suffered from frequent interruptions and disconnections, making it difficult to maintain clear communication.

During the conversation, the individual requested specific information, such as the number of residents in my house, and urged me to close my laptop. However, due to the unclear and fragmented nature of the call, I remained skeptical and focused on obtaining more concrete details.

I then told him “F SPIDER, MAI KAO PEH LAH”

My primary concern was to ascertain the legitimacy of the call, so I requested the caller’s phone number and name.

To verify the authenticity of the situation, I promptly contacted Singtel’s technical support at 1688. Upon speaking with a representative, I inquired about any recent calls made by their department to my landline.

Always be vigilant

This experience underscores the significance of maintaining caution and skepticism when dealing with unsolicited calls or requests for personal information. It is crucial to exercise due diligence, even when the caller appears to possess certain details that might lend an air of credibility to their claims. Authenticating the caller’s identity through official channels is imperative to safeguard ourselves against potential fraud or identity theft.

As we continue to navigate the digital landscape, it is essential to stay informed, educate ourselves about common scams, and remain vigilant against potential threats. By doing so, we can better protect our personal information, maintain our privacy, and contribute to a safer online environment for all.

GIRL MEETS GUY ON CMB DATING APP & TOLD HER TO INVEST, RAGES WHEN SHE REJECT

0

In the pursuit of love and companionship, we often navigate the unpredictable world of online dating with hope and optimism.

My own journey took an unexpected turn when I met someone on the CMB dating app in March 2023. Our initial conversations were promising, and we soon transitioned to WhatsApp, hoping to deepen our connection.

At first, he appeared sincere and genuine, assuring me that he had deleted the dating app and was genuinely interested in pursuing a relationship. However, as time passed, his words began to diverge from his actions. Despite expressing his desire to meet in person, he never made concrete plans to do so. What began as promises slowly turned into mere lip service, leaving me questioning his intentions.

As our conversations continued, I started noticing certain patterns in his behavior. He frequently shared images of lavish meals and boasted about his affluent lifestyle, mentioning influential friends who showered him with extravagant experiences. It became apparent that his focus shifted towards showcasing his wealth rather than fostering a genuine emotional connection.

To my surprise, he seized every opportunity to persuade me to invest in cryptocurrency, repeatedly emphasizing its potential profitability. In a remarkably short span of two weeks, he even suggested financing my initial investment, portraying it as a joint venture for our future together. This sudden proposition raised red flags, leaving me wary of his true intentions and the authenticity of his feelings.

When I respectfully declined his offer, his reaction took a turn for the worse. Anger laced his words as he unleashed a barrage of audio messages, attempting to pressure and manipulate me into reconsidering my decision. It became evident that his focus had shifted from building a meaningful relationship to pursuing personal gain at any cost.

Reflecting on this tumultuous experience, it serves as a reminder of the potential pitfalls and deceptive encounters that can arise in the realm of online dating. It underscores the importance of vigilance, trust, and authenticity when navigating such platforms, ensuring that our hearts remain guarded against those who may seek to exploit our vulnerabilities.

Ultimately, this encounter has reinforced the need to prioritize genuine connections, built on trust, mutual respect, and shared values. It is through these foundations that we can embark on meaningful relationships, finding solace in the knowledge that our hearts are in the hands of those who cherish and appreciate us for who we truly are.

WOMAN STUCK @ JEWEL CARPARK, HELPLINE TOLD HER BORROW CASHCARD FROM OTHERS THEN HANG UP

0

Facebook user Cynthia Tan shared how she was stuck at the Basement 5 carpark gantry at Jewel.

Despite having a balance of $37.77 on her NETS Flashpay card, the gantry failed to open. Seeking a solution, she tapped her card at the nearest station, but to her dismay, the barrier remained shut.

After pressing the ‘Call’ button, she was advised by a staff member to try another exit. However, the issue persisted when she reached the alternative exit.

Desperate for assistance, she made another call only to be met with a dismissive response from the employee who suggested she purchase a Cashcard from a nearby Cheers store or borrow one from another vehicle.

In a discourteous manner, he abruptly ended the conversation, leaving the woman and her three young children stranded and frustrated.

As the parking fees continued to rise ($8.24 at the time of her Facebook post), the woman’s distress grew. She attempted to reach the 24-hour hotline, hoping for a prompt resolution but was met with disappointment as her calls went unanswered.

Here is what she said

Jewel B5 carpark @ 9.50pm

Fees: $7.88

My NETS Flashpay has $37.77 but the gantry doesn’t open. So I tap my card at the station, still doesn’t open.

So I press the ‘Call’ button and the man says go to another exit. I did, same problem.

So I call again, that guy refuse to help except telling me to go find Cheers to buy a Cashcard or borrow from another vehicle, then hang up on me.

So I call the 24-hour hotline *phone number redacted*. Nobody answer at all.

Now I am stuck with 3 small kids in the car, a long line of cars behind me and the parking fees getting more expensive ($8.24 at the time of post).

STILL NO ONE COMING TO RESOLVE THE SITUATION

*I am using the same card!

It just so happen that I didn’t bring my wallet or any spare card out today
