AUNTIE NOT HAPPY WITH NTUC STAFF FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO SPEAK ENGLISH

0

A woman who was doing her shopping at NTUC FairPrice shared her frustrations at a worker whom she claimed to be a Chinese national, for not being able to speak English.

The netizen, Amy Tashiana, posted the 9-minute long video onto her YouTube page, documenting her complaining to the management about the staff being unable to speak English.

The incident happened on 21 march when she was at the FairPrice outlet at City Square Mall to buy some fresh seafood when she encountered the staff who couldn’t understand what she was saying in English.

The woman told The Independent that she spoke very little Mandarin herself and that there was no way the staff, who was cutting the fish, couldn’t respond to her effectively because the latter could only speak Mandarin.

She had instructed the staff to help her descale, clean the fish and remove the fins but received the fish in a condition that wasn’t what she asked for because of the language barrier.

Amy then approached a team leader at the supermarket to complain and say that she is not the right fit to work there because she is not able to communicate at all due to her monolingualism.

She then pointed out that there was another customer from Myanmar who experienced the same thing and didn’t want the worker to cut his fish because of the service that he had just seen.

Following the exchange with the team leader, they then returned to the fish section where the team leader explained to the staff how Amy wanted the fish to be cut.

However, Amy remained unhappy with the final product because the staff had cut off the tail of the fish instead of just a fraction of it, which Amy thought was the usual practice.

She said: “You want to employ me or not, I can cut the fish better than her. Put me there the same salary, take her out, I can cut the fish like a flower.”

“She cutting the fish but she don’t know how to cut fish. How long she working there already? Few months and she don’t know how to cut fish?”

43 Y.O EX-NUS LECTURER CHARGED FOR ALLEGEDLY MOLESTING WOMAN AT HER RESIDENCE

0

43-year-old Jeremy Fernando, a Singaporean former lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS), was charged with one count of molestation earlier today (24 March).

He was charged with allegedly molesting a woman on 4 July 2020 at about 4am, at the victim’s residence, according to court records.

The identity of the victim and the venue where the alleged crime took place cannot be revealed due to a court order.

If found guilty, Fernando faces a jail term of up to 2 years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of the punishments.

Previously fired for inappropriate behaviour

Fernando was previously fired by NUS for having an “intimate association’ with an undergraduate in a separate case, breaching the school’s code of conduct for staff.

NUS’s statement on 21 October 2020 reads:

The University would like to provide clarifications on the matter concerning the dismissal of Dr Jeremy Fernando, a former non-residential teaching staff of the Tembusu College.

The University received two complaints alleging that Dr Jeremy Fernando had behaved inappropriately as a teaching staff. All allegations of misconduct are taken seriously, and the University stands firmly against all forms of inappropriate behaviour. On receiving the initial complaint, the University immediately placed the staff member on suspension and started investigations.

The University’s internal investigation established that Dr Fernando had an intimate association with an undergraduate. As this is a serious breach of the University’s Code of Conduct for Staff, the University acted swiftly to dismiss him.

Please refer to the timeline of events at the Annex, which describes the actions taken since the first complaint was reported to the University.

Standards expected of teaching staff

All NUS staff must adhere to the University’s Code of Conduct for Staff. There are strict guidelines pertaining to personal and professional conduct. For example, a staff must not engage in an intimate relationship with an undergraduate student, and a staff must ensure that they do not place themselves in a position of conflict of interest.

Our priority is to ensure a strong level of support and care for the two students involved. The two students were advised to report the allegations of misconduct to the police, in the company of an NUS staff.

Given the seriousness of the allegations, NUS has also separately made a police report.

Support for students

The NUS Victim Care Unit (VCU) has been providing care and support to the two students throughout the investigation process and will continue to do so.

Actions taken by Tembusu College

The College places the utmost priority on the safety and well-being of its students. When the incident was made known to the College, it immediately took action to protect the student community and worked with the VCU to facilitate a fair and prompt investigation that was conducted by the University.

As one of the students was formerly a student at Tembusu College, two of the College’s Directors have been providing direct additional support to her, and are continuing to be in touch with her.

The College Master has also engaged the different stakeholders on the matter through faceto-face interactions and discussions. In addition, the College took prompt action to ensure that there was no disruption to students’ learning following the dismissal of Dr Fernando.

A group of student leaders at Tembusu College have also started a ground-up initiative to form a Community Support Working Group to facilitate deeper dialogue and discussion within the College community.

Communication of dismissal

In this instance, the University has to balance interests of privacy and confidentiality, particularly for the victims involved. We recognise that we could have shared information about the dismissal with Tembusu staff and students in a more timely manner and we endeavour to do better.

In response to a request from the NUS Students’ Union, the University has published the Code of Conduct for Staff, which is currently available in the NUS staff intranet, in the public domain for ease of access by staff and students.

We will continue to remind our staff to uphold high standards of professional and personal conduct. We will also continue to work closely with our students, staff and stakeholders to build a safe, inclusive and respectful community.

MAN ORD STILL ‘SIAO ON’ DURING RESERVIST, WANT HIS PLATOON TO PERFORM LIKE DURING NS

0

I’m back for my first year of army reservist training. It’s the same old drill, same old exercises, same old people.

Thought reservist is very chill, but our PC wanted us to train like we still NSF

Our unit had waited for four years after we finished our service before they called us back because we had manpower issues.

My platoon commander had been very siao on when we were active soldiers and we thought that he would tone down because we are already reservist.

However, we were so wrong.

He wanted us to train like we used to fight four years ago, when we were still active soldiers.

At first, everyone was excited to come back and catch up with each other over the week and go through the motions but hearing what our PC said, it put a damper onto our spirits.

As the days went by, it became increasingly clear that our commander had something else in mind. He wanted us to train like we were going to war, and he was determined to make sure that we did.

We were subjected to long, grueling drills and exercises that pushed us to our physical and mental limits.

We were expected to perform at a level that we hadn’t reached in years, and it was taking its toll on us. We were all exhausted, angry, and frustrated. We were no longer the same soldiers we had been four years ago, and our commander didn’t seem to care.

After three days of this gruelling training, we had had enough. We demanded that our commander change his tactics, or else we would all not listen to his commands.

But he wouldn’t budge. He just kept pushing us harder and harder, expecting us to perform at the same level we had four years ago.

We had no choice but to keep going.

We still have nine for years of this to go, and I hope that I won’t be asked to perform like I am still twenty years old when I approach my thirties.

“FIRST ONE TO STAND PAYS FOR DINNER”, SO GROUP STAYS SEATED EVEN WHEN IT RAINED

A TikTok video went viral online showing a group of friends sitting down at an outside table and refusing to budge even after it had started raining and pouring heavily.

The video was posted by one of the friends from the group, Afif Alzam, and they were seen in the video sitting outside a mamak stall under the heavy rain.

The group then laughed as they sat under the rain, with one of them seen laying his head on the table in disbelief at what they were doing.

The caption of the video explains what they were doing, sitting in the rain: “Whoever gets up first, pays for the meal.”

However, the video provides no conclusion to the situation and didn’t reveal who ended up paying, as the quartet remained sitting outside in the rain as the video cuts off.

The video has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 6 million views and 500,000 likes, with netizens weighing in in the comments section.

Netizens’ comments

  • Duhh. I wouldn’t be bothered staying. Just foot the bill, it won’t break your bank balance or making a hole in your pocket. Plus it’s sadaqah, you’ll get more
    • you probably do not have that many good friends bro. It’s not that they don’t want to pay, it’s not that they don’t want to sadaqah, it’s just a game between friends.
The paying part is just the stakes. Gee bro. Way to take the fun out of a silly game.
  • I would love to play this game during lunch hours with colleagues. We will end up continuing lunch time until end of day.
  • I’ll be the first person to stand up and go home first. The last person sitting there end up have to pay.
  • good fun I guess. but be careful if there’s thunder and lightning….haha.

9 Y.O GIRL KILLED ON THE WAY HOME FROM SCHOOL, TRUCK CRASHED INTO NANNY’S MOTORBIKE

0

A 9-year-old girl was killed in a traffic accident in Kampung Telok Gong, Klang, Malaysia; after a truck crashed into the motorcycle that she was riding pillion on with her nanny.

The Standard Three student was on her way home at the time when their motorcycle was hit by a trailer truck,

According to Harian Metro, the 9-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother were riding pillion on their nanny’s motorcycles on the way home.

The Director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Morni Mamat, said that they received a call for help on 22 March at about 11.25 am.

Rescuers from the Klang Fire and Rescue Station were activated and deployed to the scene immediately after receiving the call for help.

Morni said that at the time of the fatal accident, the nanny had just picked up the pair of siblings from their school.

He said in a statement that the accident involved a trailer that hit a motorcycle, on which three victims that included the two children were riding on.

He added that the girl’s brother and nanny were injured in the accident and sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang to receive treatment, while she passed away.

The girl’s body has since been sent over to the police for further investigations.

Netizens’ comments

  • The guilt of losing the little girl will always be carried on her nanny’s shoulders. A few seconds of impatience and sheer recklessness will taints the lady’s life forever. The little girl is gone and will soon be forgotten by most of us but she will always be remembered by her parents, brothers & sisters. My sincerest condolences to the family.
  • I cant hear or see this kind of news. It’ll boils my blood to ‘another level’. Seriously ….
  • Always give way to big vehicle … they care not for small motors even if they r wrong /right ( too late )
  • Condolences to the bereaved family. It’s a reminder to always be cautious and mindful when we’re on the road. Pointing fingers do no good. Everyone needed to do their part and be better especially on the road. It’s fasting season so let’s not slander. Read the news, learned a lesson, move on.

S’PORE POLICEMAN FORGED DOCUMENTS TO FATAL ACCIDENTS FOR HIS “CONVENIENCE”, JAILED

0

39-year-old Kenny Cheong Chyuan Lih, an experienced policeman, forged 15 investigations papers for traffic accidents for his “own convenience”, of which 14 cases involved fatalities, according to The Straits Times.

He was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months imprisonment on Thursday after pleading guilty to 12 charges of forgery, with 28 other charges being considered during his sentencing.

Cheong, a station inspector who served as an investigation officer in the Traffic Police’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team, has been suspended since 27 December 2018.

He forged 40 documents which resulted in 2,501 investigation papers having to be reviewed; 8 coroner’s inquiries had to be reopened as well.

However, deputy public prosecutor Thiagesh Sukumaran said the forgeries had caused no wrongful convictions, and all 8 of the affected coroner’s inquiries have since completed their rehearings, which were handled by the former state coroner Marvin Bay.

Among the cases affected by Cheong’s forgery was the fatal hit-and-run accident along Martin Road near River Valley Close in April 2016, where Kasmani Ahmat was driving a lorry that hit a man and caused his death.

The document for that accident was referred to as V1, and Cheong had then recommended that the AGC charge Kasmani under the Penal Code and Road Traffic Act.

The then-Assistant Public Prosecutor Lim Yu Hui assessed the investigation paper and felt that more investigations were needed and issued directions for further investigations in August 2016.

Instead of complying, Cheong created a “charging minute” under Lim’s name and falsely stated that APP Lim concluded that it was Kasmani’s lorry that ran over V1 and that she was directing Kasmani to be charged.

For context, charging minutes are the official correspondence in which the AGC directs the police to press charges against an accused person in court after assessing that there is enough evidence against him.

Kasmani was charged in September 2019 and the matter was then assigned to the then-Assistant Public Prosecutor Andrew Low, who discovered the forgery and reported it to the management of the AGC.

Investigations into Cheong’s criminal offences were then started by the Internal Affairs Office of the Singapore Police Force in March 2019, and he was found to have forged numerous documents.

At the time time, Kasmani also admitted to his offences and was jailed 8 weeks in 2018.

Cheong is currently out on a bail of $15,000 and is expected to surrender himself to that court on 6 April to being his prison sentence.

MAN GOT HABIT OF RUNNING MONEY HE OWE TO PEOPLE, END UP GET WHACKED

0

This happened to one of my friends and to be honest, he is a very ‘smelly’ person who likes to gamble and make rash decisions with his money then end up losing it and trying to run away from people he borrowed the money from.

People had also tried to go to his place to get money from him but his family will simply brush it off and want to call the Police to chase away those people who come to claim their money.

His family are all made up of decent people unlike him, and some of them amongst his family/relatives are also quite ‘influential’.

Here was what happened to him

It was a usual Friday night and my friend and I were hanging out at a pub. We had a few drinks and then decided to go to a night club in the nearby.

We had a great time, drinking and laughing, until my friend noticed a few people who he had apparently borrowed some money from.

My friend had a habit of not paying people back when he owed them money. He would promise them he would pay them back but then never did.

He was always running away from them if he saw them in public. This time, however, he wasn’t so lucky. The people he had borrowed from recognized him and started to approach us.

My friend panicked and started to run away, but they quickly caught him and started to beat him up. He was screaming and pleading with them not to hurt him, but they didn’t listen.

They kept hitting him until he was lying on the ground and his head swelled up like a pig. It was one of the most horrific things I had ever seen.

The people then fled the scene, leaving my friend lying there.

When I visited him the next day, I was shocked to see his condition. He had been badly beaten and was in a lot of pain.

He told me that he had learned his lesson and promised he would never borrow money again without paying it back but well I honestly also don’t believe him.

My friend is now recovering slowly and trying to put his life back together. I’m glad he’s getting better but it’s a long road ahead for him.

He’ll never be able to forget what happened that fateful night and I’m sure it will stay with him for a long time.

XMM WENT CAMPING @ UBIN & SAW A FEW GHOSTLY FIGURES SITTING ON THE TREE, CRIED TO SLEEP

0

TikTok user Isabelle Han shared about her ghostly experience while camping at Pulau Ubin and warned others not to camp there at night.

She said in her video that a few years back, she went for an overnight camping trip in Pulau Ubin with her then-boyfriend and three other friends.

One of them had the idea of not bringing a tent so that they could all stargaze at night, which they thought was a brilliant idea at the time.

They laid out their ground sheets on the ground in a row in front of the campfire that night and fell asleep under the stars, with nothing above their heads but the sky and surrounded by the trees.

Ghost figures surrounded them on the trees

Han then woke up in the middle of the night and felt uneasy for some reason, she then looked around and saw a few ghostly figures sitting on the trees that surrounded them.

She said that she saw “not just one or two, but quite a few” of the ghostly figures on the trees, with one of the trees being quite near them and she was “super scared at that time”.

She tried to wake her boyfriend up but he didn’t care and told her to go back to sleep.

She was the only one awake at the time and felt vulnerable, and she wasn’t sure if the ghostly figures were looking at her or whether they knew that she was awake.

She ultimately cried herself to sleep.

The whole group encountered the ghosts

The next morning she told her friends about what happened the previous night and found out that they also had unexplained encounters throughout the night.

One of the friends woke up and saw a figure sitting by the fireplace, but he thought the figure was one of the friends waking up to rekindle the campfire.

Another friend didn’t get up but he kicked “something” in the middle of the night, but he also thought that it was just a friend go had gotten up to rekindle the fire as well.

However, they all shared that nobody got up at all that night or sat in front of the fire.

Han’s ex-boyfriend also shared that a few hours after she tried to wake him up but failed, he also woke up later that night and saw a figure on the tree that was above their heads.

@hxyisabelle at least bring a tent 🤡👌🏼 #pulauubin #sgghost #sgghostencounters #singapore #sgtiktok #scaryexperience ♬ Spooky, quiet, scary atmosphere piano songs – Skittlegirl Sound

GIRL SAYS SOME MEN WHEN THEIR EGO KENA ATTACKED WILL ‘KI SIAO’ BECAUSE NO WHERE HIDE FACE

0

I am a 22-year-old girl who sometimes doesn’t understand why men are so affected when someone attacks their ego. I mean, it’s not like it’s the end of the world if it is the truth.

When their ego kena say, they literally can ki siao

I’ve seen it countless times, and I still don’t get it. A guy is talking to his friends, boasting about something he did or some accomplishment he achieved, and then someone calls him out on it.

The guy immediately gets defensive, and his ego takes a hit. He starts to argue and try to prove that he is right, even though it’s obvious that he is wrong.

It’s almost as if men have a harder time dealing with this kind of situation than women do. I’ve seen it happen to both, but it seems like men take it more personally.

It’s like their pride is on the line and they can’t handle it if someone questions them or their accomplishments.

But why is that? Why do men get so embarrassed and defensive when it’s the truth? I understand if it’s something that could be interpreted differently or someone is over exaggerating, but if it’s the truth then why should they be embarrassed?

A lot of men like to ‘upsell’ themselves, cannot take the truth

Maybe it’s because men are so used to bragging or talking themselves up that they don’t want to face the reality that they might not actually be as great as they think they are.

It’s like they’re scared of being wrong and having to admit that they’re not perfect.

I just don’t understand why they can’t take criticism or an opposing point of view without getting angry or defensive. It’s not like anyone is attacking them personally, they’re just trying to have a discussion.

But no matter how hard I try to understand, I just can’t wrap my head around it. I guess I’ll never really understand why men are so affected when someone attacks their ego.

I guess I just have to accept that it’s part of their nature and move on.

Sadly, my lack of understanding in this area has caused me to get into arguments with men before. I thought I was just having a discussion, but they ended up getting angry or defensive and I ended up feeling embarrassed and frustrated.

It’s just a shame that I can’t seem to get my point across without them getting upset or defensive.

I guess I’ll just have to accept that this is the way it is, and I won’t ever really understand why men are so affected when someone attacks their ego.

MAN STANDS IN PARKING LOT TO CHOPE SPACE FOR FRIEND, CHASED DRIVER AWAY

There have been many instances of people physically chope-ing parking lots with their bodies in carparks, and it seems that ugly act has reared its head once again.

The latest chope-ing incident happened on 22 March at a parking space along Sixth Avenue and Anamalai Avenue, and was captured on a driver’s dashcam, who shared the incident on TikTok.

A man wearing a red shirt and a pair of shorts, was seen holding onto a drink and sipping from it casually as he stood inside a parking lot.

As the driver reverses his car into the vacant parking lot, the man remained rooted and stubbornly refused to budge even when the car was getting closer to him/

The driver then emerges and the man then told him that “I’m chope-ing the lot for my friend, he’s right there” as he points to the vehicle behind the driver.

The driver couldn’t believe what he was seeing as he told the man “are you serious? my goodness…” before getting back into his car and driving off, incredulous at what just happened.

  9. It’s an offence to obstruct a parking lot under the Parking Places Rules of the Parking Places Act.
So, if next time anyone of you encounter similar incident, don’t just drive off. First make sure your recording is on, and then proceed to inform the mofow that it is an offence to stand in the lot and block it, and that if he does not move away, you will have to call the police.
If mofow still does not comply, just proceed to dial 999. It is absolutely legit. There is no need to fight or argue with them. Just wait for the police and let them do the job.
