25 Y.O WOMAN ARRESTED FOR RENTAL SCAMS, TAKE DEPOSIT AND RUN

0

The Police have arrested a 25-year-old woman for her involvement in a series of rental scams.

On 22 February 2023, the Police received reports from two victims who had responded to online advertisements offering rental of residential units. After the victims paid the deposits, the woman was purportedly unable to fulfil the rental agreement.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 23 February 2023.

The woman is assisting with investigations into the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following precautionary measures to avoid falling prey to rental scams:

  1. Ensure that the person you deal with is a rightful owner of the unit or an accredited real estate agent by verifying their details and contact number with the agency; and
  2. Ask to visit the unit and verify with the owner if the rental offer exists and is genuine.

AUSSIE MOVING TO SG WANTS TO KNOW THE CHANCES OF DATING A SG GUY

0

Hi guys. I’ve had a job opportunity come up to move to Singapore and I’m considering taking it. However I am interested in hearing about what my chances are of finding a partner in Singapore, as I know Asians are conservative.

Grew up in Australia with Chinese background

I’m 36 years old and recently single mum of two young kids. I’m Chinese background (grew up in Australia), speak fluent English and Chinese. In terms of looks, I’m obviously not young anymore but I’d still rate myself a solid 8/10 by Asian standards of beauty 😂 (no don’t ask me for a photo, you guys will just have to trust me!).

I’m also independent financially and actually very well-off (but obviously I’d not be walking around advertising this). I think my personality is pretty good and I have lots of friends and am popular in my workplace. When I was younger and single, I never had any trouble getting dates but obviously things are different now.

Looking to find a partner in Singapore

So what do you guys think? Will I be single forever if I move to Singapore? My mum thinks I need to stay in Australia and date white guys who are less prejudiced against single mums but I’ve actually never dated a white guy before. I prefer Chinese or Chinese background guys.

I’d be looking for someone age appropriate ideally (+/- 5) and obviously no problem if they are also divorced/separated/single dads (in fact as long as the divorce wasn’t because they did something horrible, I’d probably prefer someone like this).

Likes the cute type

In terms of looks and height, I won’t lie and would love it if they could be a bit cute haha but I’m not expecting a model or K-pop star.

I obviously don’t need them to earn a lot of money since I can more than take care of myself but I wouldn’t be looking for some young gold digger either.

In my head I’m picturing a cute single dad that works as a high school maths teacher or in IT or something.

What do you guys think? Am I dreaming lol?

I’m guessing people usually meet each other on dating apps nowadays and I’d be clearly stating my situation on my profile.

20 Y.O ARRESTED AFTER BUYING BANK ACCOUNTS FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

On 27 February 2023, a 20-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in procuring bank accounts for criminal activities. He is alleged to have solicited bank accounts from different individuals, by paying them a commission for every bank account relinquished.

His arrest was the result of extensive investigations following the apprehension of another man, believed to be his accomplice, in relation to the criminal activities and scam cases with losses amounting to more than $5 million between 2021 and 2022. His accomplice was earlier charged in court on 25 Feb 2023.

Police also seized bank cards belonging to another person, as well as electronic devices from the man.

The man will be charged in court on 1 March 2023. The offence of money laundering under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, a fine of up to $500,000, or both.

The Police take a serious stance against any person who may be involved in scams, and perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law. To avoid becoming involved in money laundering activities, members of the public should always reject requests to use their personal bank accounts to receive and transfer money for others.

The Police would like to caution job seekers to be wary of job advertisements that promise unusually high salaries for relatively simple job responsibilities. No legitimate business will require employees to utilise their own bank accounts to receive monies on the business’ behalf.

HOTEL BOOKING SCAM, AT LEAST 5 PEOPLE FALL PRAY TO SCAM AND LOSS ALMOST $9K

The Police have observed a trend of hotel-related phishing scams where the victims had made reservations for rooms via Booking.com.

Scammers would pose as representatives from the hotels and ask victims for their banking details. Since the start of 2023, the Police have received at least five reports of such scams, with reported total losses amounting to at least $8,800.

In this variant, victims who have made hotel reservations on Booking.com would receive a call or message via WhatsApp from scammers who claim to be  representatives of the hotels. They would request the victims to provide personal details via a link to confirm the reservation. Upon clicking on the link, the victims would be re-directed to fraudulent websites to key in personal and banking details (e.g. One-Time Passwords (OTPs), passwords, or credit card numbers). In some cases, the fraudulent websites would prompt the victims to make payments to confirm the reservation. Victims would only realise that they had been scammed when they contact the hotel or Booking.com or when they discovered unauthorised transactions on their bank accounts/credit cards.

Members of the public are advised to note and follow these crime prevention measures:

  • Always verify the authenticity of the information with the hotels through the official contact details listed on the hotels’ webpages;
  • Do not click on URL links provided in unsolicited messages. Look out for tell-tale signs of a phishing website;
  • Never disclose your personal or Internet banking details and OTPs to anyone; and
  • Report any fraudulent transactions to your bank immediately.

If you have any information relating to such crimes or if you are in doubt, please call the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. All information will be kept strictly confidential. If you require urgent Police assistance, please dial ‘999’.

MAN ACCIDENTALLY SEND ‘ADULT FILM’ TO HIS DATE, NOW SHE THINKS HE LIKES ‘GRANNYS’

0

It had been a few weeks since I had met my date online, and we had been messaging back and forth for a while now. I was really looking forward to meeting her in person, and I wanted to make a good impression.

So, I decided to send her a funny video that I had seen online. It was a video of someone’s grandma doing something hilarious, or at least it was what I thought as I only watched the first ten seconds.

Video which I sent her was actually ‘granny adult videos’

Little did I know, the video that I sent to her was actually ‘granny adult videos’. Yes, that’s right, ‘granny adult videos’. I had no idea that was what it was, and I was absolutely mortified when I realized what had happened.

I immediately sent her an apology, explaining that I had no idea what I was sending her. I asked her to please forgive me, and I told her that I would never do anything like that again.

Unfortunately, my date didn’t take it too well. She was obviously disgusted, and after sending me a message of ‘eeewwww i didn’t know you are into grannys’, she immediately stopped responding to my messages.

I tried to reach out to her a few more times, but I never heard back from her. I had completely ruined any chance of ever getting to know her.

I felt so embarrassed and ashamed. I had never meant to hurt her, and I never intended to make her feel uncomfortable. But I had, and I knew that I had to accept responsibility for my actions.

I don’t know what happened to my date after that. I tried to reach out to her one last time, but she never responded.

I am still embarrassed about it, and it’s something that I will never forget.

I now make sure I check the content of what I am sending before sending it to anyone.

MAN GRADUATED & TOOK GAP YEAR, INTERVIEWER TOLD HIM HIS DEGREE IS IRRELEVANT

0

I was very excited when I finally graduated Uni with my degree in liberal arts. I had worked hard to achieve my degree and was looking forward to taking a gap year to explore the world.

I had saved up a lot of money, and so I was able to travel to dozens of countries and experience different cultures and ways of life. I learned Spanish, French, and some other languages, and I felt like I was becoming a very well-rounded person.

Went for interview, was told degree not relevant

I was happy with the knowledge and experiences I had gained during my gap year but I knew that I still wanted to have a successful career and make something of myself. I took the time to update my resume and research job openings in my area.

I was excited to find a few openings that seemed to perfectly match my degree and experience. I applied for the positions and was quickly called in for an interview.

This is when I realized that my degree was not as highly regarded as I had thought. The interviewer began asking me questions about my degree and why I had chosen it.

When I began to explain that I had chosen it because I liked learning about different cultures and ideas, the interviewer seemed unimpressed. He asked me why I had chosen a degree that was not related to my career goals.

I was surprised by the interviewer’s attitude and felt like I was being judged for my choice of degree. I had not realized that this degree would not be seen as a valuable asset on my resume.

I tried to explain that I had worked hard to get good grades and had taken the time to learn different languages and gain valuable cultural knowledge. However, the interviewer seemed unconvinced and told me that my degree was not relevant to the job.

I was disappointed and frustrated by the interviewer’s attitude. It felt like I had wasted my time and money on a degree that would not help me in my job search.

I had to face the fact that my degree did not hold as much weight as more job-specific degrees. I was disheartened but I was determined to move forward and find a job that would use my skills and knowledge.

I don’t know if I will eventually land a job but I am hopeful.

BOSS DID NOT PROMOTE ME, THEN SUDDENLY STARTS TO MICROMANAGE ME

0

A few weeks ago, I lost out on my promotion. Did i handle the news well? Nope, i may not have reacted the best way, but it should of been understandable as to why i reacted the way when my promotion was taken away. I’ve been over it and moving on by applying to jobs now.

Boss attitude towards me also started to change

My boss saw that i didn’t react the best way, and ever since. She has been a petty boss and been nitpicking on every single task i do, corrects me for the smallest things and has been micro managing alot more than ever before.

She also showed clear signs in the office that she is ‘aiming’ me and gives me an attitude when talking, it just clear giveaway when you know someone doesn’t like you anymore.

I feel though as a boss, its not ethical, if i were a boss and i did not like an employee not based on their performance but behaviour, last thing i would do is make it obvious and especially in front of other colleagues.

Here are what netizens think

  • Only thing you can do is seek out a position with a different manager.

-You can’t force someone to like you, if they don’t like you it’s great to recognize it because it gives you time to position yourself for another role.

-This is one of those often overlooked topics about a persons career. You can’t flourish under a manager who doesn’t like you. IMO once you hit 3 to 4 years of experience your manager starts to become more important than many other factors simply because a good manager can do wonders for your career whereas a bad manager will neglect to give you opportunities to grow.
  • First you “didn’t react well” to not getting a promotion. Whatever that means, it’s clear that you were unprofessional in the way you handled it. There’s no excuse for that. We are adults and sometimes we don’t get what we want. It’s not a reason to lash out.

    – Your boss, upon seeing the way you reacted, likely needs to put some extra care and attention into monitoring your work to make sure you’re not bitter enough to start sabotaging the team. That’s likely their primary concern, and rightfully so.

MAN SAW CHIO GRABFOOD CYCLIST, SAYS HER SMILE SO WARM UNTIL NO NEED THERMAL BAG

0

I saw the most beautiful GrabFood cyclist last Saturday. She was waiting to cross this traffic light at Bukit Batok Rd when I happened to cycle towards her.

Wearing her hijab, she must be the only lady to put on a red lipstick and make up while cycling under the hot sun.

Regretted not taking her number

When I looked at her and said hi, she put on a smile and waved her hands at me. Instead of stopping to ask for her number, I cycled off regretting every minute of it on my way home.

Your smile is so warm that you don’t even need a thermal bag to store the food. I hope fate can bring us to see each other again soon.

GIRL EAT MALA UNTIL LOST HER PHONE, ELDERLY COUPLE RETURNED IT TO HER

0

I was eating mala with my sister on this rainy evening and just as we we were about to go home I dropped my phone and walked for about 15 minutes before even noticing.

Looked around for it in vain

I panicked, my sister panicked, A LOT. We tried retracing our steps, asking the shopkeepers nearby and calling my phone but nothing seemed to help me get closer to finding my phone.

I thought I genuinely needed to file a police report until we got a call from my number and when we answered, no one was speaking on the other end – all we could hear was the sound of the crowd and the rain.

After a minute or so of saying hello they finally responded and told me where they found it and where they were and luckily it was nearby where my sister and I were.

Couple who found it stayed behind in hopes that the owner of the phone will contact them

We met up with them and they were the most pleasant people! They said they were about to actually head home until they found my phone on the floor so they decided to stay around the area and grab a meal in hopes that I’ll come to find them and thank God I did.

We thanked them numerous times and left… but before going home we decided to buy them chocolate waffles from a nearby bakery and luckily the waffles were done before they left the food court.

First time in a long time I personally lost something in public and I couldn’t be any more grateful that I came across such wonderful people at the end of it all 🙂

Here are what netizens think

  • can’t tell if the mala was so good, or so bad, OP didn’t notice he’d dropped his phone. both possible
  • very surprised you don’t have some pin or password set on your screen lock.
  • This is such a uniquely Singaporean wholesome experience. Wish we had more posts like this!
  • Please be more careful next time. So glad that you were saved by kind souls tonight
