I’m a 30-year-old single woman and I feel lonely. All my friends are in relationships or married and living their own lives.

The thing is, I’m happy for them and supportive. I’m just feeling a little left out and isolated.

All living their own lives

I’m at a point in my life where I’m ready to find someone to share my life with, but with most people around my age already either having someone or chasing their careers, it is hard to meet someone right for me.

My friends are already in relationships or married and in a different stage of life. I’m constantly surrounded by couples and it’s hard to be the only single person in the room.

I’m not envious of my friends, I’m just feeling a little lonely. I’m not sure how to meet new people or how to put myself out there.

I also don’t want to feel like I’m intruding into the lives of my friends with most of them spending time with their partners or families.

I don’t want to be alone forever, but it’s hard to know where to start. I’ve tried online dating, but it hasn’t worked out. I’m not sure what else I can do to meet someone.

I try not to compare myself to my friends, but it’s hard not to. Everyone around me seems to have a partner or a family, or they’re in a serious relationship.

It makes me feel like I’m being left behind somehow.

Not the only one feeling this way, but I still feel lonely

I know I’m not alone in this. There are plenty of other single people in the same boat as me. But even knowing that doesn’t make me feel any less lonely.

I try to stay busy and keep my mind off of things. I’ve taken up a few hobbies to help pass the time. I also volunteer at charities a few times a month.

But when I’m surrounded by people who are all in relationships or married, it can be difficult to stay positive.

I’m trying to stay hopeful and stay true to myself. It’s hard to keep your head up when everyone else seems to have found someone and you’re still looking.

But I’m not giving up. I’m sure that one day I’ll meet the right person and all this loneliness will be a distant memory.

Until then, I’m going to keep trying new things and stay positive.

I work in a restaurant that serves food and alcoholic beverages. We carry bottled beer because it’s easier to serve, consume, and throw. It was a usual day at work when I served a table of two a bucket.

Our SOP is that we will serve the bucket already then will open for the customers on the spot ma, so I did that, but when I try to open the bottle of Heineken, I not sure why but it’s harder to open than usual.

You say ham I hungry

So I just use more force, but as soon as I did, the lip of the bottle broke off and the force used resulted in the bottle cutting off a small slice of my finger. This is not the normal scratch or what leh. You got see how people slice Christmas ham before? With the big fork then slowly slice a thin piece. Ya just that the ham was my finger.

Blood dripped profusely and I had to get some tissues. I apologized to the customers and told them I’ll get a new bottle for them in awhile and darted off to wrap my finger.

For context, only my boss and I was working that day and he was talking to other customers. He noticed the commotion and the trail of droplets of blood leading to the bar counter but he continued chilling there. For the whole night, the blood didn’t stop dripping even though in my free time I applied pressure to the wound. We didn’t have plasters either so I was stuck with tissues for the evening.

Bye bye for a bit

Yet, My boss decided it was okay for me to run the store before telling me he joining his friends for drinks elsewhere for awhile. What to do, suck it up and continue working lorh. At some point I was feeling lightheaded and was a little worried, but luckily most of the customers left already so I sat down to rest for abit.

In the end, I didn’t go A&E cause I figured it shouldn’t be that bad, but now also healing already. But really, this kind of boss ah… I don’t know what to even say about him..

Why cannot best of both worlds?

I (31, M) have been with my girlfriend (28, F) for about 1 year. It was a long day at work, and I just reached home (my GF stays with me sometimes). I was just minding my own business, eating my dabao-ed caifan when suddenly my gf called my full name. I straight stun and choke on my food.

Give me PTSD

You know the feeling when you just going about your day, then suddenly your wife/girlfriend/mother call you by your full name, even with the Chinese name? Ya it scared the crap out of me. I thought she found out something she shouldn’t have found out.

She called me to ask me this: “B ah, do you like my chest or my behind more?”. Brother… Limpei eating my dinner you come ask this kind of thing for what. What kind of tiktok you see?? I gave the politically correct answer of “Dear of course I love both la.. If not I don’t pick you already” so I could get her away and enjoy my dinner but she was persistent.

“You can only pick one”, she said. I told her I pick her shoulders because she gives good hugs. Then she suddenly got angry and told me to stop avoiding the question. At this point, mans just wanted to finish his dinner and go bathe.

But we must use our brains to think and achieve a win-win situation if possible, right? So I replied “Okay I’ll answer you, but if I choose already never get it very sian leh”. I think she got the hint because she came over and started rubbing my shoulders.

I told her “You let me finish my dinner and bathe, then I tell you which one I like the whole night”. She smiled and went back to my room first. Needless to say, this was a happily-night-after ending.

I still remember the days when I was a kid and my best friend and I used to hang out together, talking about our dreams and ambitions.

We were inseparable, and we had so much fun together. We’d always joke around and play pranks on each other, but in the end, we’d always be each other’s backbones.

We’d been friends for so long that I couldn’t imagine anything changing our relationship.

Changed after making money in property

But then, something really did change our relationship. My best friend made it big in the property sales industry and suddenly, he was a different person.

Where once he was a humble and down-to-earth person, he was now a show off and obnoxious.

He would constantly flaunt his success and brag about his money. He had become someone I hardly recognized.

He would often invite me to parties and events, but I could never quite enjoy them the way he did.

He was always surrounded by people who were only interested in him because of his money and success, and I felt like a total outsider.

I could tell he was enjoying himself, and I was happy for him, but I couldn’t help but feel a little bitter.

Drifted apart eventually

My best friend had changed, and it was hard for me to accept it. I tried to talk to him about it, but he just brushed it off. He was too busy reveling in his newfound success and wealth to care about our friendship.

I felt like I had been replaced by his new life, and it was heartbreaking.

We started to drift apart, and eventually, I stopped trying to stay in touch with him. I still think about him from time to time, but it’s hard to reconcile the person he is now with the person he used to be.

His newfound wealth and success had changed him too much, and I couldn’t handle it anymore.

I guess some things just aren’t meant to last.

Ah ma no where to spend her CPF money.

I work at a bar near town. I’m a poly student, so just working on the side to earn abit more for daily expenditure. This bar gets all kinds of patrons, old to young, male and female and we’re usually busy most days.

However there was one day that I was working, on the shop floor was only 3 of us part-timers, and we are designated sectors to serve the tables. It was about 8pm if I recall correctly, when this random ah ma came in an ordered a Guinness Stout.

Lai liao lai liao

I didn’t think much so I just got the stout from the bartender and served it to her. She started talking to me in mandarin, asking me “xiao di ah, ni que qian ma?” (which is chinese for “ah boy, do you need money?”).

I thought to myself, nowadays the scam really evolve leh. Some is scam through message and links, some is love-scam, some is call you, but this one I never see before sia. Some old lady in person asking if I need money… I played along so I said “shi de, suo yi cai hui zai zhe li zuo gong” (yeah, that’s why I’m working here”).

No money, no honey

She replied saying she will reward me $5k if I can send her home and take care of her. Ok for all students out there we know how being broke is, but no way I can accept stooping to this level. But maybe $10k I will say ok HAHAHAH.

Anyway, I humbly declined her offer and never went back to her table. She finished her pint and left shortly after. Ah ma please take care of yourself and I hope I never meet you again.
