WOMAN LOCKED HERSELF INSIDE HDB UNIT, RESCUED BY DART OFFICERS

0

A 61-year-old woman reportedly locked herself inside a HDB unit and was rescued by DART officers before being apprehended.

The incident happened at Block 350 Anchorvale Road yesterday (17 February) afternoon, at about 4.25pm.

The Singapore Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers and vehicles were seen at the scene.

DART rescuers were seen rappelling down the HDB block, with a safety life air pack being deployed at the foot of the block.

The Police said that they received a call for assistance at 4.25pm, and when officers arrived, the 61-year-old woman was found to have locked herself inside a residential property at the said location.

They then assessed that the woman might pose a danger to herself and officers from the Crisis Negotiation Unit, Special Operations Command and SCDF were activated.

The SCDF also confirmed that they received a call for help at 4.30pm, and they deployed nets at the scene, with rescuers from the DART team rappelling down from the unit above to rescue the woman.

The police then gained entry into the unit at about 6.08pm and the woman was then arrested under the Mental Health Act.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

SCAMMERS SAID “GIVE ME YOUR IC NUMBER OR U GOING TO COURT”

0

The number of active scams that are ongoing has reached an unprecedented level, every day there are complaints of scams on the internet.

A netizen was scared into sharing his personal details to a scammer after he was told that he is involved in a court case.

Here is what the netizen said:

Received a call saying “you have a court case, please press 9”, After pressing 9, a person picked up says I am going to court.

Saying I am involved in a “Loke Choy Fong” court case. Then asked for name and NRIC number, I was nervous and I shared it only to realise later that it was a scam.

An interview with a IT security consultant:

“I guess many of us are naive and many out there normally don’t even read the news. Staying updated is the best way to avoid scams. If you don’t recognize a number then don’t pick it up, if you pick up and the person says something shocking or starts trying to offer you stuff you can always hang up the phone.”

“Personally, my email is flooded and I don’t really check my mail unless I am expecting a mail, there are many scam emails out there but always look at the senders address and beware of anylinks in the email. If you are unsure, Google Search the companies actual website so you will know if the link is legit or not, but sometimes its quite obvious. Example: posb.net instead of posb.com.sg”

The 48-year-old father of the two boys who were found dead at a canal near a playground at Upper Bukit Timah, Xavier Yap Jung Houn, was handed a second capital charge earlier today (18 February).

He is being accused of murdering his second son, Yap Kai Shern Aston, by causing his death on 21 January at the canal at a playground at Greenridge Crescent, between 4.23pm and 6.18pm.

He was previously charged with the murder of his first son, Yap E Chern Ethan, on 24 January.

Yap appeared in court via a video feed from where he is being held in remand, and he was wearing a white shirt and appeared thinner with his head shaved.

His IMH report was done and a pre-trial conference at the High Court was set in April – his medical and Health Sciences Authority reports are still pending though.

The public prosecutor told the judge that the medical report was related to an injury that was sustained by Yap.

Yap is being represented by lawyer Anil Singh Sandhu, and upon conviction for murder, he faces the death penalty where he will be executed by hanging.

SHIP CARRYING 1,100 PORSCHES WENT DOWN IN FLAMES AFTER SHIP BURNS

0

For anyone that has worked on a ship would know that the number one danger in the sea is fire and not tidal waves or sinking.

On Wednesday, a ship carrying vehicles from Germany to the United States caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean, forcing the ship’s 22 crew members to abandon the ship and flee for their lives.

The Felicity Ace, a nearly 200 meter-long ship capable of transporting 4,000 automobiles, was carrying a number of premium vehicles including at least 1,100 Porsches, Volkswagens and other vehicles.

Rescue Mission

The Portuguese navy rescued all 22 crew members from the ship, which was due to arrive in Davisville, Rhode Island, on February 23. According to The Associated Press, the crew was flown to Faial island in the Azores via helicopter. There were no injuries among the crew members.

The fire is believed to be still burning for over 24 hours.

A Porsche spokesman told NBC that:

“Our immediate thoughts are of relief that the 22 crew of the merchant ship “Felicity Ace” are safe and well. A number of our cars are among the cargo. We are in contact with the shipping company and the details of the cars on board are now known. While it remains too early to confirm what occurred and next steps, we are – along with our colleagues at Porsche AG – supporting our customers and our dealers as best we can to find solutions. Anyone concerned by this incident and the implications on the car they’ve ordered should contact their Porsche dealer,” the company said in its statement.”

GUY COUNTS HOW MANY STRANDS OF NOODLES ARE INSIDE A PACK OF INDOMIE

A TikTok user, @pollutedhq, who apparently has plenty of free time on his hands, posted a video online where he counted how many strands of noodles there are inside a packet of Indomie.

He said that he has been “wondering for the longest time how many strands of instant noodles there are in a packet of Indomie”.

And so he decided to go ahead and count it.

The guy then cooked the Indomie and took one stand of the noodles for reference, measuring it at 50cm for that one strand.

He then laid out all the strands of noodles onto a table and counted them, numbering about 73 strands of noodles, with each strand being about 50cm.

He then concluded his video by revealing his revolutionary findings and saying “no wonder i always have to eat two packets.”

SUV DRIVER ALLEGEDLY PUSHED SECURITY GUARD, WHO FRACTURED HIS HAND

The Union of Security Employees (USE) shared an incident onto Facebook on 16 February involving one of their security officers.

The incident happened at United Square on 6 November 2021.

The security officer had signaled for an SUV driver to stop, and the driver then drove into a barricaded lane at a drop-off point.

The driver then allegedly shoved the security guard onto the ground after alighting from his car to confront the guard, resulting in the guard suffering a fracture to his pal and an injured lower back.

The police are investigating the incident and the union is assisting the officer, who is on medical leave because of the alleged incident.

The injured security officer who has been a senior security officer deployed at United Square to control traffic at United Square’s drop-off point, has been working for about 5 years prior to the alleged assault.

Here is USE’s statement

USE General Secretary Raymond Chin visited our member SSO P at his home recently. SSO P is currently on medical leave as a result of an assault he suffered at work.

SSO P was deployed at the drop-off point of a mall when a BMW car attempted to cut into the taxi lane illegally. When SSO P stopped the car, the driver of the BMW allegedly alighted and assaulted him. The driver then drove off. SSO P suffered a fracture on his palm and hurt his lower back. He has filed a police report and investigations are ongoing. USE is assisting SSO P on this and have also provided quick relief funds to him.

Our officers perform duties as provided for under the Private Security Industry Act (PSIA). In our latest survey conducted with the Singapore University of Social Sciences, 39% of officers reported facing abuse at work, with the general public forming the largest group of abusers.

The PSIA was amended in 2021 to offer stronger protection to our security officers. Penalties for offences against officers were increased, with the heaviest penalties increased to a $10,000 fine and up to 5 years imprisonment for voluntarily causing hurt.

USE, together with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Security Association Singapore (SAS) and Association of Certified Security Agencies (ACSA), have issued decals to sites in Singapore where officers are deployed to, urging the public to respect our officers. USE has also launched a mobile app and also runs fortnightly newspaper advertisements for officers to report abuse.

USE will continue to protect our officers, including taking legal action against perpetrators.

MAN’S HAIR STARTED TO BECOME GREY, BOSS DEMANDS HIM TO DYE IT BLACK

0

A netizen shared how he is 30 and his hair is starting to turn grey and his boss demanded him to dye it black because he is “representing the brand”.

Here is the story

I’m 30 and suddenly my hair started to turn white very rapidly. I have long black hair and it’s very noticeable. It’s like in the span of two months a third of my hair suddenly turned white.

It does not bother me in the slightest and I never wanted to cover it with dye because I actually like it.

My boss is one of those people who inherited a company and only shows up at our workplace a few times a year (usually to take Instagram pics to show off and post “inspiring” BS about being “self-made”) so I had not seen him since early 2021. The two other times he was in the offices we didn’t coincide so Tuesday was the first time he saw me in about a year.

Without even saying hello he asked “what’s wrong with your hair?”. I told him that since last summer my hair had started turning grey. He said this is a workplace and I have to “maintain my hygiene” and “make an effort to look professional” because I’m representing “his brand”. I work in an office space with 14 other people and I only interact with clients over the phone.

I do maintain my hygiene, my hair is clean and well kept and my grey hair doesn’t represent his brand for shit because not one of our clients has ever seen my face and I seriously doubt they’d care I have grey hair.

So this morning I arrive at work and HR, who is the owner’s brother in law and has that title just to collect a paycheck but does nothing, asks me why I haven’t coloured my hair yet after my talk with the boss. I told him you can’t be serious right? And tried to explain how grey hair has nothing to do with hygiene or being professional. He said he gets it but his BIL told me to fix it because he wants me to “be my best self” and if I don’t comply he’s gonna have to discipline me for insubordination. Is that even a thing? What for? For refusing to use chemical products to alter my physical image to please my boss’ male gaze?

So I’m thinking there’s never been a better moment to quit.

I have enough money saved to allow myself to stop working for a few months until I get a new job. My job is in demand and I won’t have any problem finding a new one.

I’ve been at work since 9 am, I’ve talked to my sisters and my mum and they all agree I should walk out. So now I’m sorting out some things and as soon as I’m done I’m gone.

HORRIFIED MAN KENA CHASED BY DOG, RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE “EH! EHHHHH!”

0

A video emerged online showing a man getting chased by a dog at Lim Chu Kang, while he was on a walk, and he then started running for his life.

The man was seen holding onto a camera in his hand and filming himself as he explored the Lim Chu Kang area when he realised a dog was chasing him from behind.

The man then started running, beginning by running away slowly and eventually picking up pace as the dog ran faster.

He then started full on sprinting when he realised the dog wasn’t relenting, as he shouted “eh… eh! EHH! EHHHHHHH!!!!!!”

The dog eventually slowed down and gave up on its “prey”, as netizens found bemusement at the man’s ordeal.

Some netizens advised him to not run when being chased by a dog.

Netizens’ comments

  • Legend says he’s still running and shouting hey hey hey till this day…
  • No lah, the doggie was out taking a stroll lah… The chap is just fearful of the doggie and run like a girl…. Muahahahahaha
  • No common sense. The more you run, the more the dog will come after you. If you stay calm, the dog will stop going after you. That there is someone taking a video, the one who posts this video is up to some mischief.
  • Sorry for laughing but the more I repeat watching the video, the funnier it gets
