NEW MOBILE PHONE MALWARE THAT STEALS BANKING CREDENTIALS

The Singapore Police Force has detected a new phishing scam variant where malware was installed on victims’ phones to steal their banking credentials. Since June 2022, at least two victims have fallen prey, with total losses amounting to at least $2,000.

Members of the public would receive advertisements for cleaning services via social messaging platforms.

A link would be sent to the victims after they indicated their intention to engage the cleaning services. The scammers would tell the victims to make payment by downloading an application, believed to contain malware, using the link provided on the web page.

After installing the application on their phones, the victims would be directed to make payments via legitimate banking sites using their online banking credentials. Unknown to the victims, the application would be able to access the banking credentials and SMSes sent to the victims’ phone. The victims would only realise that they had been scammed when they discovered unauthorised transactions made from their bank accounts.

Members of the public are advised to follow these crime prevention measures:

  • Download files directly from official and verified sources instead to ensure that the downloaded files are free from malware or viruses;
  • Ensure that your mobile phones, computers and other Information Communications Technology (ICT) devices are installed with updated anti-virus software and malware removal tools to detect and remove malware; and
  • Ensure that your ICT devices’ operating systems and applications are updated regularly to be protected by the latest security patches and vulnerabilities.

If you have any information relating to such crimes, please call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.  If you require urgent Police assistance, please dial ‘999’.

MAN JAILED AFTER POURING SANITIZER INTO COLLEAGUE’S DRINK

0

There is the term of “ageing gracefully”, but some people will never understand the term.

A man was recently jailed 3 weeks after he poured sanitizer into his colleague’s drink.

The victim is a new staff

According to Shin Min Daily News, 70-year-old Chen Rui Hao pleaded guilty to one count of intentionally causing hurt to a person by harmful substances.

Both the defendant and the victim are security officers at a primary school in Punggol. Chen had worked at the said location for at least 2 years while the 37-year-old female victim joined about a month ago.

The dispute started when the victim told another security guard that the defendant did not had to stand in the sun while the rest of the officers are required to.

During a meeting, the female staff raised her dissatisfaction and they started to be on bad terms.

They began finding “fault” at each other and the defendant finally took the wrong course of action which landed him in jail.

On 12 May 2021, the woman who brought a bottle of barley and the defendant added a few drops of hand sanitizer stating that he “Did not want to see her anymore”. He wanted to female security staff to leave.

The woman drank it and felt weird and later told her husband to bring her a drink, the defendant did not stop here and added hand sanitizer to it again.

After the woman drank her newly bought drink, she had a burning sensation in her throat and discomfort in her stomach. She informed her boss and checked the CCTV and found out that the defendant had “spiked” her drink.

The Police was notified immediately.

“NO MONEY DON’T BRING PARENTS COME EAT” S’POREAN TOLD BY M’SIA EATERY

Going overseas to eat is always a must-do activity. But sometimes we encounter food vendors that sell food like we owe them a living.

A video of the altercation was recorded by the Facebook user.

Table slamming could be heard in the background of the video by the food vendor.

Translated by Facebook:

Previously I liked to eat here, today I want to bring my family from Singapore to eat here. It’s sad you know, we come here to send money to people but what kind of treatment do they return? My family came at 2pm, came to see the dishes in the mirror is normal for the customer. And you’re asking, this is the only dish left, sis? The sister in the mirror answered yes, because there was stingray I immediately ordered everything and asked to serve it meaning there are more dishes. If it’s finished you just say it’s finished, the ghost aunt interrupts “what time did you come if there’s an elephant, the elephant will also be finished” Am I your neighbor or your nephews or you sound like that but I’m thinking that old people are not alive for long and lazy to serve and still order and continue eating, Because I already forgot.

If it’s true that you don’t let us eat here in a sane way as human beings say it well sorry sister it’s closed or we don’t accept customers anymore sorry. From the time I entered until I paid and when I returned, there was no word SORRY at all. Before this I heard viral about the lady’s mouth that doesn’t hit our face, we’re really okay, we’ll only know when we’re caught. Damn sick! It’s not my fault, I’m being scolded!! Is this a human or what?

Already ordered while relaxing enjoying the dishes right in front of my eyes, the problem is that I didn’t hear the radio that I heard was the lady babbling with her stick of teeth saying “sigh non-stop” as if this was the cause of my family just now. I’m strange what’s wrong with this aunt or what’s the problem with my family. I’m eating weirdly thinking about what the hell this lady’s mouth is babbling about my family. What has not been done yet. I’m already sitting and eating. Your heart is so angry with us! Don’t you just like to be chased away or else you’re just talking like an idiot!

Luckily I can see my mother’s face, my uncles and aunts are from Singapore. If not aduhai I’m lazy to talk ah, even moreover my parents are lazy to entertain but when what you hear in the video makes you giggle? When my mother speaks her child interrupts my mother. It’s true that people say how the mother is, that’s how the child is

With what we ate, I just paid the RM240 bill without asking. I think that aunt’s ugly radio be charged up to RM240. If it’s true that he considered it halal, if you stab me in the afterlife I won’t make it halal ☺️be smart in answering there hehe. During my life, my mother also said that it’s the first time I’ve ever seen someone doing business like this. Even the devil’s mouth has a lot of customers until today. It doesn’t matter because all those who come are outsiders. But what kind of sustenance did you get aunty! It’s a blessing if you have a mouth like a pirate !

Is it right that the aunt said “there’s no results just eat omelette, if you don’t have money don’t bring your parents to eat” ouch my heart feels like I’ve been pierced. Your life is sadder, I can only sit in the kitchen and become a bad radio from the kids taking you out for a meal! Even your children can close the shop during the holiday to enjoy the breeze if they feel tired of doing business! Don’t do business everyday looking for sustenance but the package gets sin once.

Shame on outsiders to see and hear for themselves that Malacca people are doing business to feed people in this way. Even though the outsiders are from SINGAPORE my relatives I still feel SHY!!!

WOMAN BOOKED TADA RIDE, WHICH PICKED UP WRONG PAX & CHARGED HER

A Facebook user, Luna Moon, shared how she booked a TADA ride to pick her and her boyfriend up from Hougang Avenue 8 to Sengkang Hospital.

However, the driver allegedly picked up the wrong passenger and drove the him (the wrong passenger) to the hospital.

The woman was then allegedly charged with the ride that she did not take.

Here is what she said

so that day because of an emergency i book an TADA Car to pick me and my boyfriend up from hougang ave 8 to sengkang hospital. however, when i looked at the app, the driver apparently picked someone up? and i clearly was not picked up by him, he then proceeded to pick up the “uncle” and drove him to sengkang hospital, and i was charge with that ride i did not take.

1. why did he not check with the passenger if it was the right person?

2. even if the passenger could have played off as me, i called the person and he knew i am a female however he picked up an uncle?

i emailed TADA and haven’t heard from them in 3 days plus i called them as well and no one picked up the call even though i called fourth seperate times

the driver also said he cannot cancel cause he already dropped off the passenger WHICH ISNT ME

CONSIGNMENT DECLARED AS “BICYCLE”, ICA OFFICERS OPENS IT & FINDS MOTORCYCLE

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a statement on Facebook that they noticed anomalies inside a consignment that was declared as “bicycle”.

They then opened it and found a motorcycle instead.

Here is what they said

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲

On 8 June, ICA officers at Pasir Panjang Scanning Station noticed anomalies in the scanned images of an inbound container.

The officers proceeded to conduct an unstuffing operation at the importer’s premises and found a used Harley Davidson motorcycle in a consignment declared as a ‘bicycle’.

The case was referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

Importers need to ensure accurate declarations of their consignments. Similar methods may be used in attempts to smuggle security-sensitive items into Singapore.

Thus it is essential that ICA continues to uncover and thwart such attempts, to secure our borders.

Shopee sent out a memo by their group president Chris Feng on 13 June, detailing their plans to retrench workers from their food delivery ShopeeFood and online payment ShopeePay teams in Southeast Asia.

“This is to ensure that, as a business, we remain in the best possible position to continue scaling sustainably and, ultimately, to win.”

Feng explained the decision to lay off workers, saying that it was to optimise operations in certain segments and markets.

He also added that business will continue operating in Shopee Mexico, Argentina and Chile; and ShopeeFood and ShopeePay will operate as usual in Southeast Asia.

Feng added that the retrenchment drive was a “very difficult decision to make” and that they will do the very best they can to support them through this transition.
