An employer shared how his employee left without serving their notice and the unhappiness started when his other employees were unhappy about the food the FT is eating as it smells.

The boss offered the foreign employees free lunch but they took offence to the kind gesture.

Here is the story:

I have an employee who brings in strong-smelling foods into our small open office. Things like fish and some fermented food which is then microwaved.

Other employees have to open their windows and I’ve received complaints from people who enter our area. I’ve asked them to not bring these foods and was told they were cultural dishes and I was being racist.

I did not know what to do I didn’t mind cause half the time I’m not in the office but my other local employees are making noise about it.

I tried to be nice and offered the foreign employees free local lunch so the office will smell nicer but instead of being thankful to me, they quit without serving notice.

I gave them a job, buy them lunch and they quit. Good luck in finding another job without leaving Singapore.

After quitting for several days, they told me to not cancel their permit but they left their job without serving notice. I told them what they did was extremely irresponsible, and they offered to come back and serve their notice until I can find a replacement. 

But no way I’m going to do that, I’m going to cancel all their work pass immediately.

The term pay peanuts get monkeys are real indeed.

I am just curious and would like to know: how much allowance do you give your parents? By allowance I mean the monthly money you give out of filial piety.

I remembered giving my mum some money from my measly part time job pay during my secondary and poly school holidays, so it was natural to give allowance too once I started working full time, but sadly, my pay is really quite miserable for a uni grad pay.

I do not earn much, significantly way lesser than those OPs on NUSWhispers complaining about their 8k monthly salary.

I have recently just finished repaying my study loan of 1k per month for the past 5 years (total 60k)

I am currently paying a monthy insurance of 1.6k (including endowments,  investments and life insurance policies).

(Since this post is anynomous) my take home is slightly more than 3k. I work in a lab and that’s the basic salary offered across all labs in singapore, so changing lab jobs will not change or improve my take home income.

For the past  5 years since I have started working, I was unable to save much because of the repayment of study loan and insurances financial constraints.

For the past 5 years, in addition to repaying my study loan and paying for my insurances, I have been giving my parents allowance too.

When I finished repaying my 60k study loan, I increased the parental allowance by 200 bucks a month.

During one fateful month, when i had alot of credit card bills to pay due to insurance and other stuff, I gave 100 bucks lesser in the parental allowance

(but still higher than what I used to give when I was still repaying my study loan), my mum wasn’t happy and said i was shortchanging her, and even after i explained my financial predicament, she didn’t accept my explanation and said I shouldn’t shortchange her.

I am currently giving her 17% of my take home salary. Is that too little?

My parents has 4 children, each giving them allowance and I just heard from my sister that “U know when u get married, u also have to give yr spouse family?”

So that means that my brother in law and sister in law are giving my parents allowance too?? That is 6 people giving them allowance every month!!!

Does that mean my partner has to give them allowance after we get married too? He earns 1k lesser than me, and he is already giving allowance to his parents, I don’t think he will be able to afford to give my parents allowance too . His parents are very easy going and they are not nit picky about how much he gives them because they understand that he doesnt earn much.

Is there an unspoken rule that we have to give our spouse parents too?

How are we to raise a family with our already little combined income and also give both sides of the family allowance??

Question: what is the appropriate percentage of your take home salary to give your parents? And do we also have to give our spouse parents?

So my BF and I have been dating for a little over 2 years and we are both in our early 30s, we started dating just before the pandemic and so when everything hit he moved into my tiny studio flat so we could isolate together.

After a while of both of us working from home and starting to drive each other crazy, he suggested we spend more time at his parents home about 1 hour away because we would have more space and I could attend my millions of Zoom meetings a day without disturbing him.

He is also an insomniac and night owl, so we have different routines. Everyone was so lovely we ended up spending a lot of time there over the months before we moved into a bigger flat near where we both work. As mentioned, one of the main reasons we were there so often is to have more space. Our new flat eliminated that need.

i met this man about 2 years back & we really hit it off. he’s super attractive and cute, sweet towards me, very gentlemanly, basically everything you could ask for in a guy. we’ve never done anything explicitly sexual except the occasional remark he would make, like “you’re so sexy” or anything along the lines of that.

but recently i feel as if his demeanour has changed completely. his words are no longer so honeyed, they’re rather short & curt, and he only texts me when he needs something from me. i’m not sure if it’s me who did something wrong to elicit such behaviour, but i’ve been trying to make him happier by adhering to his requests.

except he’s been asking me for naughty photos a lot recently. at first, i resisted, after all we don’t have a label on our relationship and quite frankly, i feel that we’re more like friends with benefits instead of boyfriend & girlfriend. but whenever i tell him i don’t feel comfortable sending pictures, he gets super cold towards me & it makes me feel horrible.

yesterday i finally caved in and sent him a picture, nothing too revealing, just a mirror pic in my underwear, and i told him that this was for his eyes only, he couldn’t save it into his phone, screenshot or send to anyone else. immediately after i sent the pic, he took a screenshot. i felt so violated and disrespected, i scolded him on the spot but he just replied with “i won’t do anything with it, why you don’t trust me?” now i’m genuinely afraid of what he’ll do with my photos, i don’t want to create a bad digital footprint for myself and i don’t want to see my pictures online one day, if ever. i wish i could turn back time, i would never have sent him the photo.

he hasn’t contacted me in a week, i’m lost as to what to do now and i haven’t confided in anyone else. what should i do?

A netizen shared a story of how his two army friends got into a fight after they were fighting over a disco girl.

One of them declares that the girl on the stage is his girlfriend and one of their friends hang flowers for that girl which resulted in a dispute.

For those that don’t know what is hang flower, it typically means hanging flowers to girls performing on the stage as a form of tipping and the girl gets a cut.

Here is the story:

Two of my best army mates stop talking to each other because of a girl at a disco.

It happened last weekend, we usually spend our precious book out weekends at a club or a Thai disco, My friend “Ah Tan” got acquainted with a Thai girl and soon there were calling each other “Teeruk” which translates to darling. We had no idea if the girl was really into him or just shaking him like a money tree.

A few weeks went by and my friend Ah Tan got extra on weekends and could not book out. My other friend Daniel is also part of our “disco going gang”. Told me that we should continue to enjoy ourselves without Ah Tan.

We went to Ah Tan’s favourite disco (favourite because his “girl” is there). She recognized us and greet us after we enter, Shortly after cheering a few drinks with the girl. Daniel decided to hang flowers for the “Ah Tan’s girl”. The girl came by and asked wow you hang even more than my “Teeruk”.

By then, it was obvious Daniel was also interested in the same Thai girl. He also took the LINE ID of the girl and added her to his handphone.

It was book-in night, and Ah Tan notice that Daniel is chatting with the girl on LINE messenger.

Ah Tan snatch away his phone and read the contents, he later questions Daniel if he is his “brother”. Daniel kept quiet.
