A business owner shared his views on the current market and stated that it is a no go to venture into a new business now and espcially in the retail sector.

With the uncertainty of the current pandemic, it is unclear how the market could be affected. Everytime when there is a lockdown the market crashes, marketing expenditure decreases, job security decreases and lowering cost is the utmost importanance for most businesses now.

Many businesses who are afraid of the high risk during this period dare not venture further into their business, in another words reduce or no expansion. Mr Tan who is the owner of 11 companies in Singapore said that with the current situation the best option is to prepare for the worse and always be passive. The reason for doing so is to mitigate risk, with every new expansion decesion made it stretches the company’s wallet which increases risk as cash flow is lowered.

He said that even though he have ideas of expanding he must also be responsible to his employees. He might end up stretching his wallet too much that he have to let go some of his employees.

He adviced the younger generations to save more money during this rainy weather and continue to upgrade themselves and not wait for opportunity to come and then upgrade.

In his words he said: “When disaters strikes, new opporunity arises”

He added it is best to observes first and understand every variable before starting your own business and wait for the time to come.

Then sometimes they ask for more money, then must buy food burn offerings.

5 BTO PROJECT DELAYED, CONTRACTOR NO MONEY

5 BTO projects were furthered delay after contractors engaged by HDB failed to sustain their business during COVID-19.

Many of them face labour shortages which also affected the financial status of the company. Although the government had provided assistance to the companies they are still unable to finish the job

By right the following projects are expected to complete on the following dates:

ProjectNo of blocks and unitsOriginal Expected Completion Time
Senja Ridges1 block – 230 unitsFourth-quarter 2021
Senja Heights2 blocks – 552 unitsFirst-quarter 2022
Sky Vista @ Bukit Batok2 blocks – 257 unitsThird-quarter 2022
Marsiling Grove5 blocks – 1,246 unitsFourth-quarter 2022
West Coast Parkview3 blocks – 697 unitsSecond-quarter 2023

HDB reported that the 5 projects have been suspended since 20th August 2021. HDB said that they will be working on bringing new contractors to undertake these projects.

Property Agent opinion:

Couples who are eager for their HDB will have to wait longer, this news could potentially increase the already expensive resale housing to increase in pricing even further.

Prices on resale housing have been on the rise this year and many single individuals are struggling to afford any resale houses. The delay of BTO housing could also mean that some people would have to continue staying with their parents or rent a house. Thus, adding another factor to the increase of HDB resale prices.

Property agents might be laughing at the bank but people who really need a home have to endure in other words “suck thumb”.

He found out that an average student has to spend close to SGD$2,000 if they were go via the route of learning it from a driving school. He stated that the fees are very high and often they have to pay for various extra useless lessons such as “simulator” to advance their lessons.

He said: “You let me play a simulator that is worse than Daytona arcade game in the 90s and expect us to learn it?”

He said that he wanted to get a class 4 license so that he can drive the lorry and secure a job, but in order to do so, he must first spend at least SGD$2,000 to get a class 3 license to wait for him to get enough driving experiences to learn class 4.

However, the point is not the waiting period to get more experience, the student must again re-register for the school and pay another fee to get registered as a student.

He said many of these schools are deliberately set the expiration date shorter so they have to pay for the fees again.

SOFA PAID FOR IN APRIL, WAIT HALF A YEAR HAVEN’T ARRIVE

In April of this year, I ordered a sofa at ION’s Crate&Barrel, paid the full amount, and the sales staff promised to get it in August.

The waiting time of four months is already long, and I asked twice already, and they all said that I could receive it in August.

Who knew I went to ask the specific time again at the end of last month and was told to postpone it to October! I want a refund, but I don’t agree! Such a big company, without credit, overlord clauses, arrogant attitude, and ignoring customers, it is no wonder that the one opposite to 313 has been closed.

Very disappointed!

Now I only hope to receive the sofa after half a year of waiting, but I doubt it! #Crate and Barrel

Not isolated case

Bought something online, and they overcharged the amount, and under-refunded.

When I emailed in, their response was “it’s not us, it’s our payment system merchant”, and the reason for the overcharged was because of ‘cross border transaction’. I used a local credit card, and their payment system merchant was based is US.

When asked the resolution of previous cases with the same issue, they said ‘case-by-case’ basis.

Beware buying online cause they will overcharge and say they can’t resolve it.
