MAN CAUGHT SPITTING, LIED TO CERTIS OFFICER THAT HE HAD COVID

Poh Liang Chai, 43-years-old, pleaded guilty on 18 November to one count of using threatening words towards a public servant.

He was fined $1,500 for his troubles.

What happened?

Poh was smoking outside the lift lobby of a HDB block in Tanglin Halt on 3 July and he was caught spitting twice into a drain.

The Certis enforcement officers then approached him to explain the offence that he had committed, as well as request his particulars.

Poh refused to provide them with his information and walked towards the lift lobby, to which one of the enforcement officers, Eswaran Kerishnan, said that he would have to inform the police if he doesn’t comply.

Poh then challenged him to call the police and raised his voice at Eswaran, telling him to “shut up”.

He also told the officer “I just kena Covid”, implying that he was infectious – Poh was Covid-19 negative but was on home quarantine until 28 June.

Eswaran then didn’t follow him into the lift for his own safety, before lodging a report later about the case of Poh being uncooperative.

3 PILOTS FIRED BY CATHAY PACIFIC HK FOR TESTING POSITIVE ON LAYOVER

According to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), three cargo pilots have been fired by Cathay Pacific after they tested positive on their layover fight to Frankfurt.

The reason for firing the three pilots was for unspecified “serious breach” of crew rules while overseas.

They were suspected of leaving their hotel rooms when they are restricted from doing so due to the current pandemic.

Tested positive

Two out of the three pilots aged 29 and 57 tested positive on November 10.

They claimed that they did not leave their hotel rooms while in Germany and did not go for any social gatherings.

The third pilot aged 53 had also stayed in the same hotel and tested positive on Sunday (14 Nov).

Implications

The result of these three pilots testing positive implicated 150 Cathay staff to be placed under quarantine, along with many other close contacts who were sent for isolation at Penny’s Bay.

More than 120 students who are close contacts with one of the pilot’s family members were also placed under quarantine.

The other two pilots also implicated 70 of their friends and colleagues to be placed under isolation.

Stepping up of measures

Cathay said that they will step up compliance checks and ensure that their crew strictly follows the health and safety protocols during their layovers.

It added that all of its crew had been fully vaccinated against the virus and there would be a requirement of a booster dose.

JOHOR CHIEF MINISTER: VTL BETWEEN JOHOR & S’PORE TO START 29 NOV

Johor Chief Minister Hasni Mohammad claimed that a land-based Vaccination Travel Lane (VTL) between Singapore and Johor could be kickstarted as soon as 29 November.

He made the claims on 18 November, saying that he could confirm that a land border crossing would be implemented following talking between both sides.

According to Kosmo, Hasni made the claims at a Desaru hotel, Four Points by Sheraton.

He said:

“I have good news to share, we have communicated with the authorities from the federal and state governments and confirmed that the land border crossing will open on Nov. 29.

Travelling on land between Singapore and Johor Bahru will only be for long-term pass (border) holders, those working in Singapore, and Singaporeans working in Johor Bahru.

The federal government is considering making land travel arrangements between Singapore and Johor Bahru, similar to the arrangement between Changi to KLIA.”

Finalising details

The Ministry of Trade and Industry said that they were working with their Malaysian counterparts to further “restore connectivity”, and that they will make the announcement soon once the details of the VTL are finalized.

They also highlighted good progress on the talks with Malaysia.

GIRL CLAIMS BABY IS MAN’S BECAUSE ONLY HE DOESN’T WEAR PROTECTION

A video has recently been uploaded onto Tiktok showing a good-looking lady sharing the news of her pregnancy to a guy who could only be heard on audio.

This video is probably a parody given that it is on Tiktok and it is not to be taken seriously.

The video starts by the lady wanting to tell the man something, before revealing that she is pregnant.

The man then questions her on whether the baby is his (inferring that she is cheating) to which she rebutted him back.

However as the video carries on, there is a plot twist on why the baby belongs to the man (sub-inference that the lady still cheated on him).

The whole conversation is in Mandarin, and it loosely translates to:

Girl: Let me tell you something.

Guy: What’s up?

Girl: I am pregnant.

Guy: You’re Pregnant? Is the baby mine?

Girl: *Nods head in agreement*

Girl: How can it not be yours? You’re the only one that does not wear (protection).

MOTORIST ADVISES BIKER HER LICENSE PLATE IS ILLEGAL, BIKER RIDES OFF

A photo showing the back view of a rider as well as the motorbike license plate has been uploaded onto social media.

A closer inspection of the pictures uploaded shows that the motorbike’s license plate has bended inwards into half resulting in only half the top part of the license plate bearing the characters ‘FBM’ able to be seen.

The rest of the characters could not be seen as it has been blocked.

The motorist who shared the images online claimed that this incident happened along Bartley road at around 7am presumably today (19 Nov) given that the post was only seen on social media 30 minutes before the time of writing.

The motorist also kindly informed the rider that having a motorbike license plate like that is against the law.

Having heard this from the motorist, the rider rode off immediately without bothering about the advice given to her.

Regulations

According to One Motoring, here are the regulations for motorbikes in the case of this particular biker in this post.

The vehicle licence plate must be displayed on the front and back of your vehicle, with the vehicle number clearly shown.

As for the rear license plate, here are the allowed dimensions:

1. Letters and digits are 50 mm high, 30 mm wide and 5 mm broad

2. The space between adjoining letters or between adjoining numbers is 10 mm

3. The space between a letter and a digit next to each other is 20 mm

4. The space from the nearest part of each letter and digit to the top, bottom and side of the vehicle license plate is 10 mm

2 MEN ARRESTED FOR SCRIBBLING “O$P$” AND SETTING FIRE TO GATE

A video emerged online showing a couple of alleged loanshark carrying out their “duties” and vandalising public property at a HDB flat in Hougang.

A man wearing a black hoodie and hat to cover his face was seen with a marker, writing “O$P$” on the wall, as well as writing the personal details of the person on it.

Another man wearing a blue shirt was seen pouring what is presumably kerosene on the gate of the HDB unit.

He then set fire to the gate moments later, with the duo fleeing the scene shortly after.

Loansharks arrested

The Police said on 17 November that 2 men were arrested for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases, aged 20 and 21-years-old.

They then revealed that the two men were arrested on 24 September and that the video was not new.

Their statement on Facebook reads:

“The Police are aware of a video being circulated that depicts a case of loanshark harassment where the door of a residential unit was set on fire, with writings scribbled on the walls beside it.

The incident in the video is linked to a loanshark harassment case which happened on 20 September 2021.

The Police had arrested and charged two men on 25 September 2021 for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases, including the case as depicted.”

PEDESTRIAN FIGHTS WITH GRABFOOD RIDER, POLICE AT THE SCENE

A video emerged online showing a heated argument between a Grabfood rider and a pedestrian on a pathway.

The argument purportedly arose due to a collision between the two, with other riders stepping in to try and defuse the situation.

The police were also seen at the scene.

The netizen who took and shared the video shed a little light on the story:

“From what we heard the guy in the blue was blocking the pathway, the grab food delivery man was ringing their bell but he possibly didn’t hear it.

So they then collided and chaos started to happen, other Grab food riders saw what happened and tried to help out too,

And eventually, the police came.”

29 MORE ALLEGED VICTIMS OF MAN WHO PRETENDED TO BE GYNAECOLOGIST

A 36 year old man who was recently arrested for posing as a Gynaecologist on Facebook asking women to send photos of their genitals to him under the pretext of medical and research purposes has been handed 9 new charges in court today (Nov 19).

29 more women who allegedly are victims of this case has emerged, said the prosecutor who asked for the case to be adjourned to a later date so that investigations could be further continued.

The man, also known as Ooi Chuen Wei now has a total of 10 counts of cheating by impersonation and all of them were committed between April 2020 and October 2021.

Modus Operandi

Ooi acted under the guise of ‘Dr Janice Lee Yan Hooi’ from Gleneagles hospital, scamming women to send him photos and videos of their genitals.

The name ‘Dr Janice Lee Yan Hooi’ however did not show up after a check was conducted on the Gleneagles hospital website and also the National Registry of doctors.

260 images and 40 videos were allegedly sent to Ooi from the victims he managed to dupe.

Current situation and Penalties

Ooi was first charged in court last Saturday (13 Nov) and had been held in remand since then, but was offered a bail of $15,000 today.

He would be back in court on Dec 16 to undergo trial.

A jail term of up to five years, a fine or both could be sentenced to Ooi if he is found guilty of cheating by impersonation.
