The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) posted an update on their Facebook about a foiled smuggling attempt at the Tuas Checkpoint.
A Malaysian registered lorry had attempted to smuggle about 1048 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore, before being caught by ICA officers.

“Not the 11.11 loots you are expecting!
On 12 November, ICA officers at Tuas checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle 1,048 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore via a Malaysia-registered lorry transporting various consignments including furniture boards.
The case was detected after our officers directed the lorry for further checks. Their suspicions were confirmed when they uncovered duty-unpaid cigarettes within the furniture boards.
The case was referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
Safeguarding Singapore’s borders remains as the top priority for ICA. Similar concealment methods may also be used by terrorists to smuggle security items into Singapore.
ICA will continue to conduct security checks to detect and deter smuggling attempts, to keep Singapore safe.”
